Nero walked out of the ally way, Flare had just taken them here and insisted that Nero was in control. Nero tried to look as unsuspicious as possible, no one seemed to even pay attention to him as he stepped out of the ally. Nero walked straight forward to cross the road and was shocked when a large horseless coach almost ran him over an let out a spectacular roar. Nero bolted across the road and stared with wide eyes at the horseless coaches that moved along the road, a few people glanced at him but they quickly lost interest and continued about their daily lives. Nero sighed and decided to stick to the crowds and copy what they did, he noticed strange markings on the road and flashing lights and people seemed to cross the road at these points and so that is what Nero did.
Nero didn’t like this world, it was strange to him, he wondered aimlessly around until he came to realize he wasn’t amongst the crowds anymore. He seemed to be in a place full of ruins….slowly Nero walked towards what seemed to be the only standing building left. He quietly entered the building and found a large pond in the middle of the broken floor boards. The place was beautiful in a sad kind of way. It was like the last remnants of something that was once beautiful. Nero walked over to the water and placed his hand in it. It was pure…he suddenly realized a scar on his hand was gone. A healing spring…
Nero stripped of Flare’s coat, along with their boots and shirt, he finally removed his pants leaving only what could be described as boxer shorts. Nero then lowered himself into the water and watched as the scare both he and Flare had received over the years fade away.
”Amazing…” Flare said to Nero watching their body heal, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Nero couldn’t disagree, it was truly amazing, he had never seen a healing spring so strong. The ones back in their home had done nothing but fade the scars that he and Flare bore slightly. Nero let out a deep breath and submerged himself, something he would never do in any normal spring or body of water.
"That's because it's special, yo," Reno said eyebrow raised at the stranger in Aerith's pool. "I don't think even Choco-boy's done that....not that it matters....you however....don't think he'd appreciate it," He said good naturedly. In fact, he had come in just to see if the startling blonde was around. Seventh Heaven had been a dead end. Empty. Which was sad really because he happened to like that bar despite the differences between Avalanche and the Turks. They had gotten over it fairly well towards the end.
Reno walked around the place, only glancing in teh water for a moment and grinning to himself. Other than that he payed Nero no heed. "Just don't drink it," He warned. It probably wasn't the same as that stuff at the Forgotten City but since that was on Ancient ground and Aerith was...is an Ancient he'd rather not take the risk.
"You seen a spikey blond around, or a dark haired woman, big chest?" Reno asked. If they were around it meant the were hiding pretty good and if they weren't...well then he'd have two less people on his back trying to control what he did. That was a drag.
Reno was still wearing his uniform, having stopped off at his place first, but for once it was tucked in. He guessed he missed Tseng that little bit more than he realised and figured it wouldn't hurt to have it tucked in for the day. "Nice trick though," He grinned. Guy's lips hadn't moved at all. It was so going to be a touchy subject.
Nero spun around at the sound of another voice, he spun around and froze at the sight of the other red head, he wondered if he should summon his sword but quickly banished the thought, this man did not seem to have ill intentions. Nero went back to the side and grabbed Flare's coat and put it on his shoulders as he climbed out of the water. He put his pants back on examening Reno intently, "My apologies, I wasn't aware that I wasn't meant to climb into it." Nero dropped the coat and put his shirt back on followed by his boots.
Nero laughed as he was told not to drink the water, "I had no intentions of drinking it. I only drink if the water is flowing, otherwise it grows stagnent and you can get sick." Nero hated getting sick, it was aweful not been able to run around and act how he wanted. Been bed bound was no fun, and with Flare it was unbearable! Nero smirked at the discription, "Big chested....sounds nice. I can't say that I have, but I'll keep an eye out for them." Nero picked up his coat and smiled politely at Reno as he put it on. His skin was still damp and his hair soaked but it didn't matter. Nero increased his body heat and began to dry off.
Reno chuckled. "And boy do you get sick," This young redhead had no idea. He couldn't be from around here, otherwise he'd know about the rain. Aerith's healing rain. If Gaia's people were ever indebted to her they certainly were now. Except she wasn't in the Life Stream anymore. Was she? A strong soul like her surely would have been pulled from the green flowingness of the River of Life. But you never knew. Perhaps she was still there with Zack watching over everything.
Except Cloudy was no where to be seen and they certainly didn't care if Reno happened to kick the bucket.
"Sure knows how to fight thought," Reno said in a feigned dreamy voice. Girl didn't know how to pull her punches and it wasn't like he bruised that easily either.
Reno nodded grinning. "You know speaking without opening your mouth. Could come in handy," he said eyeing him lightly. He wondered what reaction he'd get from that. He sure didn't look like a geek that was for sure.
Nero laughed, "I know, I've had such an experience..." Well in all honesty Flare had been the one in pain lying next to the pond moaning and clutching his belly. Nero had been nice and safe within his mind and had been very worried at the time, these days he looked back and laughed at Flare's foolishness. Flare and Nero had learnt how to survive the hard way, from trial and error.
Nero nodded, "Back where I come from there is a woman named Aleyah. She is one of the greatest warriors I have ever met, one should not doubt the power of women." Nero smirked, "I for one fear them."
Nero laughed covering his tracks, "It is a talent that took many years to learn." That wasn't a total lie, he was twelve when he first met Flare and it wasnt till he was thirteen that their combined powers really came into their own.
"Ready for a little more talking Flare?" "It's show time!"
Yes women. One should fear them. Especially when they were homocidal aliens hell bent on destroying your planet and getting the inhabitants to do so. Well mainly through her mostly human but slightly alien son who up until discovering that little tid bit of interesting, yet horrifying information had actually been brooding but really quite nice. It was only a few years ago that Sephiroth was being called General and hanging out...did he hang out?...with Angeal and Genesis and occasionally meeting Zack and being loved by pretty much everyone. Of course anyone who could keep up with Sephiroth - even if he was going easy on them - was someone to respect and be wary of. So yeah on Reno's list there was mostly just Jenova since Tifa in the end didn't really cut it since she didn't drive peopleinsane in the sense of being mentally deranged.
So yeah. Jenova and Sephiroth...then there was Zack since Cloud effectively learnt everything from him? And of course Cloud who was pumped full of so much enhancing Mako that it's surprising it's only his eyes that glow and not his entire body like the Tsviets. Wait, how did he get onto this? Ah yes. Fearing women.
Reno scoffed. "You haven't met Jenova." Then he decided to edit that. "Don't think you will either, pretty sure we got the last of her cells," He said in a musing tone wondering if they really had. As far as the Ex-Turk knew the only thing remaning was her head and a year ago or so that had been reduced, to well a box full of cells.
Sure the guy seemed innnocent enough but then Hojo thought Jenova was an Ancient - the crazed lunatic - and that didn't work out so well so Reno couldn't be too sure. Oh well, keep an eye on him that was best.
"Really?" Reno said in awe although truthfully he really didn't care but he had plenty of practice being intent on listening to Elena and she or even Rude or Tseng never noticed the difference and they knew him for too well. Shame on them for missing it really. "I can turn my eyelids inside out. That took a long time too," He said sincerely. Well it had.
He had freaked Elena out with that. It had been so funny. It was then that it occured to him that he hadn't gone to look for them yet and found that strange. Reno missed them terribly but perhaps it was fear that held him back. After being so long without them and clinging to the hope that they got sucked through too and didn't get swallowed he didn't want to find them gone now he had returned...or find that they had never left but in fact had died without him. Once upon a time, they thought themselves invincible but then Wutai, Genesis, Sephiroth, Meteor, Geostigma and DG happened and they knew they weren't as powerful as they pretended to be and everybody knew it. Especially Avalanche. Especially Rufus and his Turks.
Nero was confused about what this red head said about ‘Jenova’, he decided it was best to ignore it and just keep it in the back of his mind for future references. It was one of those things he did when he was in council meetings that way he would know if it was taken up again.
Nero looked at Reno with his intense eyes, he could feel the under lying disinterest but decided to continue on as if he hadn’t noticed, “That’s just wrong,” He laughed hearing about Reno’s talent.
He walked over to the other red head and offered his hand, “My name is Nero by the way.” He smiled. The underlying action to this handshake was to get inside Reno’s head and see how this guy worked. It was a good advantage when you knew more about someone then they knew about you.
Nero had been able to stop assassination attempts made towards his brothers because he was able to see it in their mind.
Reno shrugged at the commment of his skill being wrong. To most he was just plain wrong being basically a hired skilled assassin who really only had one loyalty with a determination and stubborness to match that of a small child (children = extremely stubborn). At least he still held the same fire he had when he was a kid, if not more so.
"Reno," Reno said and against his better judgement shook the guy's hand and immediately regretted it. He was overwhelmed by the sense of something being sincerely, severely wrong and since the only connection he had was Nero it had to be him.
Reno was a violent guy. Reno was an extremely fast violent guy.
Twisting his arm so it was latched onto the guy's jacket instead of his hand with his left shoved him against a broken pillar with his arm over his throat eyes hard, glittering and dangerous.
"What the f***? Care to explain that, Nero?" Reno asked in a cold emotionless voice, contemplating putting a bullet into his brain. And this was why they didn't trust aliens but after going out there and seeing quite a few himself, he thought Nero should have the benefit of the doubt. Apparantly that was quite a mistake.
Nero only got a glimpse of Reno’s mind before he was pushed up against a pillar and Reno was holding him by his jacket, he gasped as his head hit the pillar, He placed his hands over Reno’s trying to make him let go, he felt a lump forming on the back of his head. Nero thought about lying but then decided it could turn really wrong and he could end up dead.
“We can take him Nero,” Flare whispered even though no one could hear him. “No, we don’t want to cause trouble.”
Nero looked straight into Reno’s eyes, “I was reading your mind. I must say, you have good reflexes. You didn’t even think about attacking me, you did it straight away without a thought.”Nero sighed, “I am sorry, I was just unsure if I could trust you so I wanted to find out what kind of person you were….are.”
Nero closed his eyes for a brief second and allowed all the information he had collected on Reno be pushed into the back of his mind for Flare to quickly sort through and give him a verdict on the guy.
Reno was shaken by that. To think someone can just enter his head and know everything there is to know....what the f***?! To be honest he was afraid of Nero who had the potential to cripple people if he had the notion to. Although Reno was shaking, it was from anger, rage, disgust, offence rather than fear. Oh no, not a well trained good little Turk like he would show his fear so easy. No, that was deep deep in his shrivelling heart. But he still felt it.
"That isn't good enough," Reno said breathing deep and suppressing the urge to beat him to death with his EMR. "I don't care who you are or what you have been through you do not have the right to do that. You do realise that is a form of rape right?"
He didn't care what precious Nero's reaction to that would be. It was true. It was an uncomfrotable topic but Nero just took away his privacy in his own frickin' head and the feelign that he had any semblance of control over anything. Dirty, used, a toy, violated. Feelings he had before and never wished to encounter again but here he was doing his best to ignore them.
"You do not have the right to dive into my head for whatever reason just like you do not have the right to dive into my body without permission first you piece of sh**," Reno said scornfully managing cold and emotionless and livid at the same time. "So do not give me that appologetic routine crap!"
Do....not....kill....do....not....beat...to...death...new leaf....new leaf....new leaf.... It wouldn't do to be arrested would it? So Reno tried sincerely hard not to have more blood flowing over his hands. If Nero possessed any.
Nero couldn’t help himself, even with the threat to his life he did it again. This time he only skimmed his thoughts, the very outer ones so Reno couldn’t feel him. Nero suddenly understood why Reno didn’t want him poking around in his mind. It was a dark place…
Nero began to fret as he stood pushed up against the wall and his heart began to race, then it happened.
Nero bowed his head and his hair turned black, he looked up with suddenly angry eyes and a twisted smirk, “Hello Reno, my name is Flare” Flare wasted no time protecting himself. He kicked his leg into Reno’s stomach and pushed him away, Flare quickly moved out of Reno’s reach, “Now, I don’t really like people threatening Nero. It’s not a very nice thing to do. Nero was just curious and he meant no harm by what he did.”
Flare summoned his sword, “Now as punishment for hurting Nero you get me, Flare. And I don’t play nice like Nero does.” “Flare don’t” Nero’s voice rang loud and clear, “Don’t hurt him. He doesn’t deserve it” Flare snorted, “Says you, look into his mind and tell me what you see. I saw him cause suffering and pain.” “And I saw him turn over a new leaf. Flare, I am in the wrong.”
Flare dismissed his sword and glared at Reno, “You are lucky Nero is a softy” With that the black head was red head once more. Nero straightened up and looked at Reno with intelligent and observant eyes, “I don’t judge people by their past actions. I judge them by their current actions.”
The kick didn't hurt nearly as much as it could have since years of training had built up Reno's stomach muscles quite well. Many blows were now nothing more than heavy dunts. Still it was difficult to breath, being winded like that but he was used to dealing with that too. Accident prone Reno had adjusted to withstand a lot of things. Threats included. His job, had hardened him against such violence and pain. There was almost nothing that could break him down. And certainly not a pretty sword.
"Some places you just don't go. Doesn't privacy mean anything to you guys? Morals, because you both sound and look like you might actually have some. There was so many things wrong with what you just did. Curiousity just doesn't cut it. Always get what you want do you Nero? Does it not matter how you get it?" Reno snapped angrily ignoring Flare. He didn't care who Flare was at the moment. He could be an all powerful Guardian and he'd still behave the same way. One of the thigns REno hated the most were brats. Surprisingly Reno was actually a really grateful guy, though you'd never know it by his attitude, tone and words. Many things were seen as charity and he wouldnt accept the help but when he did have something or it was given sincerely....that was different. Brats got what the wanted and didn't know any different. Didn't know about hardship, whatever of having to work for things. In fact, Reno hadn't liked Rufus for that aspect until he won him over. Didn't change his loyalty one bit though.
"What? Can't deal with a little bump to the head?" Reno asked voice colder than ever. His whole attitude, his mind was screaming, whatever, I don't care. Try being mutated, tortured, cloned, shoved in a Mako tank for Gaia knows how long, turned into Mako reliant SOLDIERS, living in the slums, going to war. There was a plentitude of things a whole lot worse than a bump to the head and slight loss of air for a minute or two.
Reno shook his head at Nero. "Is that supposed to make me understand and trust you?"
Reno was keeping his EMR up his sleeve thankful he hadn't flicked it down yet. He wasn't sure whether Nero was aware of the Rod, or the fact he was carrying a gun but if possible, he'd much prefer to keep that to himself. Did Nero really expect him to accept his pathetic explanation? Not judging by the past? That only had merit if the person in question truly cared about their present actions and regretted those in the past. Reno certainly didn't. Why should he? Why should be complain that he had gotten a highly paid job, a house, regular food - should he actually choose to eat - great coworkers, a couple of friends/family and for all that, all he had to do was what he was told. Why should Reno regret it when he'd be doing exactly the same thing on the streets? It was survival of the fittest in the slums and nothing was going to change that. Granted, some Sectors and parts of sectors were more adverse than others.
"OH a skill you picked up yeah? Two people in one body? I can live with that. It's not like I haven't seen stranger things," Reno said. Vincent. Poor mutated Ex-Turk had three demons running rampant in his skull. Must be quieter though without Chaos.
What was truly stopping him from attempting to do Nero some serious damage was the church. He may have stepped all over hte flowers had they still been here - he may not have - but Aerith had adored this church and her ties to this world caused her to save it. Save it from Meteor. Save it from Geostigma. Reno knew things. That and he bugged people until they caved. Reno could be extremely presistant and even more annoying than usual if someone was holding out on him.
So, for Aerith, in the only small amount of gratitude and silent thanks he would allow himself, or was capable of, Reno wouldn't commit more violence than necessary. New leaf be damned, that guy had tried to raid his head! He'd just have to wait until another time before he pummelled him.
Nero Glared, “I have lived in hardship for a long time as had Flare, we know what it is like to have nothing but each other. I don’t always get what I want. If it was up to me I would be at home with my brothers and not world jumping hoping and praying that they are safe.”
Nero hated been accused of getting his own way, it was true he ranked higher then any of the other lords in his brother’s court and that Leamarden trusted his judgment on almost all occasions. Even so Nero knew about doing it tough, more then one would believe, not only was sharing a body such a burden but it was also the fact that Flare and himself had spent so much time fighting on Leamarden’s behalf.
“If you had such a power as I do would you honestly not use it? It is a tool for survival.” Nero scowled at Reno, of course others would never understand what it was like having these powers.
“As for Flare, what I did was selfish. He is almost like a punishment for my own foolishness. I thought I had lost my family so I decided to split my soul to get rid of the half that acknowledged what I had lost. But because I am a Falcar sworn by birth to remain whole and serve my god Adar I was given Flare.”
Nero loved Flare and often felt sorry for him having to live the way they did, of course Flare had learnt how to posses other bodies but it was better Nero then someone else. The thing that hurt the most was that Flare bore this life with no complaint. Nero wondered what Flare got out of staying with Nero when he could take on a better life in another body.
Reno shrugged his shoulders. "So?" He was wondering if he should care about anything much at all. He was still trying to get over the fac that mind reading was possible and the this little dude had done it.
"I don't know what I would do with it. Never been in that situation. I only got one shot at life you pipsqueak," Reno wasn't going to be happy/ comfortable for a long long time after this. "Besides, ain't about me using it it's about you so don't try to twist things OK?" It wasn't a question.
What would we have done? What kind of question was that? He can't so how can Reno possibly know? He wouldn't have gone through a lot of things had he been able to read minds. Would have been handy. At least he would have been doing it on his own Planet rather than the first alien who came across him.
"For your own sake I'd keep that quiet. People here don't take too friendly to aliens," Reno warned him. He just hoped he would used it. After Sephiroth trying to kill them, again, why would they accept extra terrestrial life?
Nero listened to Reno ramble about not knowing what he would do with the power to read minds. Nero already knew, it would be used. People could deny it all they wanted but it was fact that they would be unable to resist.
He knew this because Flare had tested it on Seltex, the most pure hearted person Nero knew and even he fell to the power and used it. It was impossible not to.
Aliens, in his world that meant a foreigner and he guessed he was, but Nero and Flare had learnt a fair few new terms as they moved and the aliens Reno was referring to was not what Nero was. ”I am no alien. Thank you. I am an elemental.” He said proudly.
Nero wasn’t just any elemental, he was the most powerful fire elemental ever, he had Flare to thank for that. They both had the powers of a fully developed Fire elemental and along with their training and combined powers it made them lethal. Nero had not used their combined powers since the war, it was just too dangerous, they were unsure about how powerful they really were and neither really wanted to find out.
Nero stared at Reno, for all the man had been through he didn’t understand true evil and true power. There had to be those who were strong enough to destroy worlds without a second thought and Nero knew that if he was to ever turn dark he would have to be destroyed or risk the destruction of worlds. Reno had no idea who he had standing before him. “I am no threat to your life or any in this world.” Well for the moment he wasn’t unless he turned dark. Nero shut his eyes, the darkness had been creeping up on him lately as he began to understand how hard it would be to find his brother. It was horrible and wasn’t getting better. Never getting better….and with the darkness Flare had it was becoming over powering.
Reno shook his head at Nero. "You are an alien. You don't belong to this world therefore you are an alien. So forgive me for being wary. We haven't had much luck with aliens," A slight twist to the truth there but it was mostly true.
Except Sephiroth was more a twisted Gaian with part alien DNA? He was confusing. Why had Hojo been so crazy and intelligent? Why couldn't he have been a crazy but not-quite-so-smart unambitious guy then things like the Tsviets and Sephy going mental would never have happened. It was a shame too. Everyone who know Sephiroth pre Crisis said he was a great guy. Crisis changed everything.
"You'd be surprised where threats to my life come from," Reno said. "Besides you are more a threat to my sanity which isn't any better," He had worked hard for his sanity too. Reno liked to keep it as intact as possible thank you very much and some twerp rifling around in there wasn't going to help.
When Nero closed his eyes Reno crept fowards. Whether he was aware or not didn't matter. When you are having an argument you don't close your eyes especially when the other person is a hostile stranger. At the very least, Nero would learn something out of this experience because Reno was entirely convience Nero knew how he had made Reno feel.
Nero opened his eyes, “I already apologized but I do not regret it, lets make the odds even.” Nero put his hand out, “I have every memory and every piece ofknowledge you have ever had previous to me touching you. When you touch me you will get all of my memories. But not Flare’s, I can’t give Flare’s away because he has sealed then from me.”
Nero wasn’t sure if he was doing the right thing, he wasn’t really going to give Reno all his memories, it would truly drive the man insane. He was only going to give him the ones for before and after the war. The ones during the war and during the time Flare controlled the body were going to be kept secret. He had also withdrawn all political memories as them in the wrong hands could lead to many horrible things.
”You no longer have anything to hide from me so there is no threat.”
Nero liked this guy, despite his erratic behavior, he made Nero feel sane and in control. Doubt still gnawed at Nero but it wasn’t as strong here…then again that could be the healing spring, but Nero preferred it to be a persona making him feel like this.
Reno looked at him with suspcious eyes. First Nero was trying to prove a point by saying he would use it now he was offering his memories? Who in their right mind would do that? That was when Reno knew Nero wasn't quite as sane as he let on.
"No. Got enough going on thanks," Reno said. He may be extremely curious but he had a point to prove either. To prove Nero wrong. So Reno was twisted what else was new? And he really didn't want nor need someone elses troubles floating around his chaotic head. He was staring at the redhead in disbelief.
"There's no threat? You just don't get it do you? You just tripled that treat Nero," Reno said but he should know that already shouldn't he? This stranger, a guy he never met before knew how he thought, knew everything and it made Reno distraught inside. Knowing how he thought was prviliaged information, something he gave to people he trusted. His memores were something he shared on the occasion that he wanted to but Nero denied him everything. How could he trust himself after this? Who was he really? He had to sort that out before sorting through anyone else. So no he didn't want Nero's frickin' memories.
Nero lowered his hand, Reno would eventually come to temptation, they all did. Nero had seen it all before.
Nero frowned and then laughed, “Maybe people like me are a threat, but personally I am not. I am only here searching for my brothers. Nothing more.”
Nero sighed mentally. He missed his brothers. Arrogant Leamarden and meek Seltex. The two couldn’t be more different at times but they both won your heart one way or another.
Nero knew it was out of place to say this but he hoped it would help the situation, “Have you seen my brothers? Their names are Leamarden and Seltex. They are both nineteen and tall. Leamarden has red and black hair while Seltex has black. Leamarden is very proud and strong willed. Seltex is quieter and seemingly meek.” Nero explained.
Reno didn't want to know what was in Nero's head. What was to say it wasn't much worse than was running rampant in his own mind? Nero did seem to be coping fairly well but then, he had adjusted to his situation, had a lot of time to think about it.
Reno frowned. Nero had been inside his head. Shouldn't he knew such reassurances were not going to work? 'Most people like me are a threat but I'm not?' Why would Reno care? As far as Reno was concerned pratically anything coming out the guy's mouth could have been carefully grafted, designed to try and lure him into trusting him. He was a Turk through and through, former or not; he didn't know how to be any different. Well that wasn't entirely true. He knew how to work the streets - lotta guys liked young pretty redheads - how to pickpocket without being killed, where to hide, when to hide and who to charm. It was all about illusion. And it angered him that Nero laughed.
Nero said he had everything but clearly didn't get it. AT least he wasn't taking it seriuosly and Reno did despite laughing about it sometimes. His past made him who he is, it made him unstable, slightly insane, off kilter but who was normal nowadays?
"You already know if I've seen them or not," Reno stated, so what the hell was the point in asking?! He denied him conversation! Reno adored conversation. And for once he didn't want to talk to the person in front of him. Heck he would blether away to Barret - and Barret sooo wasn't happy with him at all - than this little punk.
Nero smiled, this guy was sharp, “You don’t miss a thing,” Nero sighed looking at his nails with raised eye brows, “Ya know if you had touched me I could have shown you were your companions are. I’ve seen them.” Nero’s brow creased for a moment as he fished through Reno’s memories, “Rude and Tseng. I’ve seen those two.”
Nero knew how to dangle information and use what he knew to his advantage. He had seen Reno’s co-workers as he had walked through Edge and that was important information to the Turk. Now all he had to do was place the last layer on, this would be slightly more difficult because this was where he had to lie. Keeping his features set and his eyes on his nails he went on, “I could take you to them, but…. I don’t feel like it.” Nero dropped his hand and shrugged, “I’ll leave you in peace. Farewell Reno.”
Nero turned away and began to walk out of the church. “And they say that I am the cruel one.” Flare laughed. “Be silent Flare and wait.” Nero smirked opening the door to the church.
Reno frowned knownig what Nero was doing. On the one hand he wanted to see them so so much but Nero hadn't mentioned that at all until now. Reno wasn't as stupid as he appeared to be nor was he easily led. He still had a point to prove to Nero. Nero had challenged him and Reno was as stubborn as people get.
"Nice ploy," Reno said amicably. Nero just wanted him to cave. Didn't he? No! He wouldn't give in. Nero didn't walk away until he refused to answer, so either the Elemental didn't have all his memories like he was saying, or he really wanted Reno to cave. Pathetic really. does he get some sort of kick out of all this? Reno knew it was ironic and he was being kinda hypoctrical, but Nero said it himself; he was no threat. So why was he behaving like one? Something was off about the whole situation and Reno was getting the distinct feeling Nero didn't know anything.
Reno always trusted his instincts....99% of the time at least.
"You don't know where they are. And if you did there's nothing wrong with just saying it, don't you see that?" Reno said to Nero's retreating back. He just wanted Nero to see what it was like to have a complete stranger know you, or the idea...it was sickening. Perhaps Nero didn't care and then, if that was true there was something very very wrong with him. Everyone had the rights to secrets, a past, a history and it was theirs to tell, no one else. And now Reno didn't want to find them until he had gotten his head straight. He didn't want them to see him all shaky and sh**.
"Desperate times call for desperate measures. Like I said....brat," Reno said not caring if it pushed him away further. "Do you actually have my memories, yo? " He asked. He did have the right to know after all. "Or just some of them?" He wasn't acting like he knew every tiny detail.
It was in Reno's nature to challenge. He challenged Rufus, and Tseng, Rude and Elena but he wouldn't question their judgement. Ach, it was complicated, but whatever decision they finally came to a rest to, he trusted immensely.
Nero stopped as Reno called out to him, he turned around looking bored, he grew bored of this game, but the thrill of the chase that would follow would be what gave him the kicks. He listened to Reno call his accusations and call him a brat, Nero stared with a confident but bored look. This was the boring part of his mind games, it had been Flare who started these games, they were cruel but Nero had grown fond of them. “I do know where they are, but I am not telling you. I have no obligation to.” Nero lent against the door frame of the church smirking confidently.
Nero closed his eyes for a brief second and looked at a few of Reno’s memories, “Hard life you have led my friend. But you still know nothing.” Nero straightened up, “I have not only your memories but every thought you have ever had before I touched you, every emotion, everything. If I wanted to I could pose as you and no one would know because I know everything you know.”
Nero then smirked as Flare sent forward one of Reno’s memories to him, “Like the time you zapped yourself with your….EMR. That really hurt.” Nero then shrugged again, “Any way, I am out of here. Good luck with getting over your pain. You should learn to move on. Just like you told Cloud to do when he was distressed about his girlfriends death.”
And Nero thought that this would make Reno think he wasn't a threat? Reno just didn't know whether he was coming or going with this guy, but Nero should no one thing. Reno is twisted. Reno would pass up an opportunity like this just to prove a point. Nero had challenged him and he didn't back down from that sort of thing.
"My aren't we smug," Reno said. Nero wasn't walking away and that told Reno more than Nero ever would.
Reno decided then Nero wasn't nice. That usually didn't matter at all to Reno, but he was unpleasant to talk to. At least, to most bad guys - many of whom Reno got on well with - didn't raid his head and know everything about him. Nero should know then, if he knew anything much at all about life and people, that he was terrifying Reno, and a cornered Reno only wanted to get away. This was actually torture and Reno felt nauseous.
He felt nauseous because if they were out there in the big bad universe he was passing up the opportunity o find out where but then, Nero had been on Gaia for how long?
Reno walked out of the church and past Nero. "Have a good life then. I'm just gonna go see if they are around on this planet thanks," he said before adding. "Oh and I'd stop if you don't want that EMR shoved up your ass,"
Nero knew he was threatening and he knew that he was scary and he relished it. Sometimes a man just needed to feel power and Nero knew he had power over Reno now. All he needed was to play his cards right from now on. “Get me something good Flare,” Nero said, “And hurry up.” Flare hesitated a moment before doing what he was told, it wasn’t like Nero to act like this.
Nero smirked and turned away while he fumed inside. Who was Flare to go against him and not give him what he wanted?! Nero turned back to the church, he was angry beyond compare. Angry that someone had won against temptation. How did this man do it? All the information Nero had on him which was everything pointed to the fact that Reno should have caved.
“Let it go Nero,” Flare said gently. Nero snapped his fingers and the church was set on fire, “No living man can resist temptation.”
Nero then blacked out of his body and was pulled into the room Flare and Nero shared in his mind. It was growing darker in there since Nero had let out his dark thoughts, since Aleyah had passed away. Flare stood glaring at Nero, “What the hell is wrong with you!? You aren’t the Nero I know and love.” Nero growled and stood up, “I’ve lost the love of my life! I am running around these worlds searching for my brothers but for nothing! They are gone and I can’t find or protect them!! Of course I am angry!!”
While Nero and Flare struggled internally their body lay on the dirt outside the burning church.
It had been a while since he had felt like this. Reno over recent years had grown lax, a bit sloppy, careless and clumsy. He had always been reckless, there was no denying that. Sometimes he'd make a stupid mistake that would infuriate Tseng but he almost always knew how to correct it, set things straight. It might take a week, but he would track down that missing file, catch the one that got away. He'd always ask Tseng for the chance to redeem himself. It wasn't always granted.
It was like riding a bike. Becoming the Turk that he was once was, getting his brain back into gear after the period of time when he didn't have to think quite so fast, quite so sharp, where boredom had inevitabely led him to get into a couple of scrapes. It was like riding a bike. Nero had sparked something in him that he couldn't see. Memories weren't everything. The Elemental may have his memories, emotions at the time...Reno didn't believe about the thing about his thoughts at the time, hadn't they died with time? But Nero wasn't human, at least, not like any Reno had come across and didn't understand. He thought he could predict Reno's actions but Reno himself didn't always know what he'd do or how he would react. It was what made his life so exciting and unusual. Every action he took wasn't predestined or any rubbish like that. Sure there were strong patterns but Reno had it in built within him, so deep perhaps Nero couldn't see it, to prove people wrong. Years and years of being a Turk, going on missions, being caught and tortured, persuaded to give up information had toughened him beyond the trials of the streets and his atrocious parents. Reno was once again in a focused concentrated mode one that he used on missions - with the exception of Kadaj, since if he went all out, he surely would have sealed his doom and their threat was nothing like this: he also didn't have Cloud and his gang to fall back on and inevitabely take control. Determination ran through his veins like a fast flowing river infusing with stubborness and the anger and the fear. Adrenalin kept him going long past when normal people would have burned out. The Mako kept the fires burning, kept the smoke billowing.
He knew he must be infuriating Nero, since it would have turned Reno red himself. To be honest, Nero was acting a bit like Reno. that was how it appeared to Reno. He was infectious. Either you fell under his sway or you got itchy and needed to be shot of him. Reno had wanted to see how Nero would react to the challenge if he would keep pushing and pushing. To be honest, Reno may have caved eventually; he missed them too much and was too curious but....even if Nero had seen them on another world, they were probably long gone by now. That was another reason for refusing. And why accept all that knowledge just to obtain one minute fraction that Nero may or may not possess?
Reno didn't do unneccessary deeds. Unless it was bar fights to blow of steam of course.
When Nero fell with a thud Reno turned curious. looking at the sight he sighed and rolled his eyes thinking it a ploy at first. Folding his arms he tapped his foot before cautiously moving forwards. Once next to Nero he crouched, pulling him up into a sitting position with his back leaning against the broken slats. None to gently, he tapped Nero's cheek. "Typical," He muttered.
Nero flinched as his physical body was touched, the outside body flinched with him since he was still in control. “Flare! We can fight later, right now we need to protect our body.” Flare shook his head at Nero, “I’ll take care of it. You stay here.” Before Nero could protest Flare faded away.
On the outside Nero’s hair changed to black and he moaned gently. His voice was ever so slightly different but only one who listened intently would be able to tell. ‘Nero’ blinked a few times before looking at Reno. “Hello again. Did you come to Nero’s temptation or did you just want to chat?”
Flare was a lot more cheeky and rude compared to Nero, he was the warrior, he had fought for many years without Nero and he was also a lot more independent. But Flare had no mind for fighting Reno now. No, he didn’t really care about the red head, Reno’s troubles were not his problem. That was how Flare lived, if it didn’t affect him it wasn’t his problem. This theory was the very reason Flare had never gotten on well with Nero’s youngest brother Seltex who cared deeply for everything and everyone and often didn’t care what happened to him as long as the innocent were kept safe.
Reno smirked. "I won't deny that I'm curious," He started but held up a finger. "My friends could be anywhere now even if you have seen them. Besides I don't trust anything either of you say," And why should he? Nero was turning out to be no better than he despite his protests.
Reno's smirk was widening. "And you just told me what I wanted to know too," 'Nero's temptation' how aptly put. If it was the truth surely it would have been Nero's offer? Hmmm. It was been so long since he ahd thought like this, he had been confined by the expectations of Rufus. Don't get him wrong, he cared for Rufus, respected his wishes and desires and did - mostly- what he was told. He liked to keep poeple on their toes. Rufus had wanted them to change and with the current climate it seemed like a good idea. To get things back on track people had to at least feel nothng for ShinRa.
"You two have a fight or something?" Reno asked not particularly caring. It just seemed appropriate for the situation. Reno smirked again. "Nero must have a lot on his mind to behave so strangely," Nero's behaviour had turned 360 in a matter of minutes. Reno didn't need to see inside his head for him to know that. Nero and Flare needed to learn to read people better and stop relying on that gift of theirs.
Flare nodded, “Nero hasn’t treated you like he treats others, usually he is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet, a people pleaser. But not with you. You have proven a challenge most people take his hand without a second thought and greedily try to steal his knowledge.” Flare explained wincing as Nero began to battle him from the inside to take control of their body once more.
Flare did not care if Nero was angry with him for telling Reno what the plan was, “Look I may share this body with Nero but that doesn’t mean I agree with everything he does. If you ask me he is scared as he realizes the chances of finding his brothers alive grows slimmer with every passing day.” Flare cried out as Nero gave him a particularly hard blow from within his mind. But Flare wasn’t finished just yet, “but just so you know we did see your companions..” Flare let out another cry before chuckling.
“What made you think we are fighting?” Flare sighed heavily, “Nero has lost the only people he has ever sworn an oath to. He swore his life to protecting his brothers and now they are gone he is hating himself.”
Yuck. Emotional crap but there wasn't a way to avoid it. Nero had sucked them all into this and there was no way out now.
Reno chuckled. "Memories clearly can't tell you everything about a person," So it was too deep for him to see, to engrained. Nero clearly didn't dig as deep as he would have liked, but then, it would probably be quite painful if he had.
Reno shook his head at Flare. "Oh you know, your little cries of pain, collapsing, that sort of thing," Two people in one body must be tough. AGain, he wondered how Vampy felt. His head must never be quiet with three other things smushed in there.
"Everybody cracks at some point," Reno stated more willing to be civil with them now that one of them had shown an ounce of vague respect. he didn't think he could forgive them though. "Can't be good for either of you actually, taking in all that information. It's not yours to have either,"
Survival shmival. It didn't matter. It was a violation plain and simple.
Flare shook his head, “No, usually we only use the memories and personalities for spy missions. Back in our home land, our squad known as the Falcars are entrusted to keep the royal family safe at all costs and so Nero’s ability is indispensable. Without us the king would be long dead.” Flare smiled, “Having all the information was once a burden until we figured out we could use our mind like a library, all the information is put into categories. It is still a weight, but” Flare shrugged, “What are you going to do about it?”
Nero growled as he tried to mentally overload Flare’s mind with images and memories, he just needed Flare to be weak for a second so he could gain control. “Excuse me for a moment.” Flare said to Reno falling unconscious once more. Flare entered the mental room once more. Before Nero could do anything Flare muttered a spell and smirked as Nero fell asleep. Flare quickly returned to out side the body, “Sorry about that Reno, Nero was just giving me a headache.”
Flare sighed, “Look, I am sorry for what Nero did, if you want we can leave. Just keep an eye out for his brothers and if you see them tell them that Flare and Nero are looking for them.”
"Oh good for you!" Reno said sarcastically. "Just wonderful to know I am merely one of many," He said. Reno wasn't high with morals, he didn't really care for them, but the few he possessed have been severely bruised. He felt exposed, shamefully naked and dirty and he didn't like feeling this way!
"Looking for two brothers. I've heard something similar before. Last time it was Mother and the Planet was almost destroyed so excuse me if I'm disinclined to tell you anything," Reno said raising an eyebrow. OK so Kadaj had been Sephiroth in a younger body, minus the sexy voice but with Nero's apparant instability at the moment he wasn't about to risk it. Unneccessary.
Flare didn't seem so bad though which was almost comforting.
Flare stood up and sighed, “Leamarden and Seltex pose no threat, they are young men who just want to go home. They never wished to be taken from their home. Aren’t you meant to be helping orphans?” Flare hated using his stolen knowledge against others but he had to find his king. He had to get the old Nero back.
Flare offered his hand to help Nero up but knew he wouldn’t take it so quickly slipped a glove on, “There no tricks.” He smiled down at the red head. Flare liked this guy, he had resisted Nero and that made him a hero in Flare’s books, made him an enemy in Nero’s though.
Reno decided Nero and Flare would be good people...person....to test himself on. To try and force himself to be civil to someone who had hurt him in such a way wasn't in his nature, it would be pure torture but he would do it, only to prove to himself that he was capable of doing so. It was a challege and Reno was in a mood for them now. He wanted to do it because Nero wouldn't expect him to and it would drive him crazy: to have been inside someone's head like that yet was still unable to predict how they would react. If Reno was in Nero's position it certainly would drive him crazy.
Unless of course - and there was a small chance - Nero expected him to do so but Nero himself didn't seem to be that twisted, or imaginative.
Reno rolled his eyes. "That's not all I do," Reno said. So he helped out a couple of times when the kids had been turned into drones, and then for a time afterwards sending infected children to Avalanche to be healed. It turned out with Reno's immature attitude they took better to him than Rude and Elena just tended to sort of glare at them or gush over them so it was Reno that had to save all the kiddies. He complained and griped about it. Rufus had set up an Orphanage for them to go, be cared for, loved, fed etc. Reno would go and make sure things were running smoothly and no one was mistreating the kids or imbezzling money. Why Rufus thought Reno would be good for the job, he'd never know. Reno did believe he said it would help with his people skills or something. Whatever.
Truly Reno didn't mind sweeping kids of the street and putting them somewhere that was run well. Living on the streets himself gave him great insight. Edge wasn't so bad though and the people there were generally nice. Most kids stayed in that area, so it was mostly the darker, more run down parts of the town that Reno slinked.
"You know, despite our first enounter, you aren't have bad Flare," Reno said but wasn't entirely sure Flare heard him.
Nero stood in the council room at Avail castle, around him moved the councilors as each passed Nero read their thoughts, spending so much time around them had given him the ability to do so without touching them. His eyes stared straight ahead glassed over as he registered each thought. The last councilor passed through and Nero dutifully walked out through the back door where Leamarden and Seltex were waiting. Nero touched their foreheads and sent to them the thoughts of the councilors that he deemed appropriate.
Unexpectedly Seltex then sent Leamarden through the door into the council room but grabbed Nero’s arm. “Love” That was the only word that came out of Seltex’s mouth before he walked out into the council room. Nero went to follow but as he opened the door he was returned to the dark world of dreamless sleep.
Flare sensed Reno’s sudden change in attitude but decided to keep it in mind instead of act on it. Acting irrationally would do him no good. Flare was usually one to start a fight but not any more, right now he would rather use the people of this world to help him find his king and prince. Flare’s gloved hand still lay outstretched offering assistance to Reno in a friendly gesture. Flare assumed Reno would not really take it but it was a nice gesture none the less.
Back in Avail Flare had been known for been anti social in the days before he left Nero, his only thoughts were to protect the king and prince and not care for political matters. Since his return to Nero he felt as if he had been wasting his life staying in the shadows when ever possible, but not he was going to fix that problem and bring himself to Nero’s level. That is how Nero acted when he wasn’t been uncharacteristically dark.
Reno shut down again after that. What? He said he was OK so that instantly made them friends? What the heck? He's known Cloudy a hell of a lot longer and they weren't buddies, goin' out drinkin' havin a laugh. It takes more than a few kind words to get Reno to forgive something like what Nero just pulled. Yeah, so he was talking to Flare but they shared the same body!
"That doesn't mean I like you," Reno said coldly, keeping his hands to himself. So they were going to get Flare to get him to see? Nah nah nah nah. It was a double challenge now. The last time this happened things ended badly because Rude had challenged him he wouldn't blow up at Elena when she was a Rookie and Elena bet that he couldn't keep quite for two whole hours; which she promptly spent annoying the hell out of him. He had his revenge though when the two hours were up by screaming the place down and going after Elena. Tseng arrived a little too late....Shame all that damage came out of his wages and no one elses. They were partly to blame
Reno crossed his arms for emphasis. "You know, right now those orphans are straighter than either of you," And some of them were tricky little buggers. They had learnt well. Reno felt a small hum of pride at that. At least they weren't so easily taken in by a stranger who was promising food, shelter and clothing so blindly.
Flare pulled his hand back smirking at Reno, this was the kind of guy he liked, cautious but at heart a good person, “It was a peace offering, but hey, I ain’t going to force nothing on you,” Flare laughed at Reno’s crossed arms, “You know, I bet those kids act more grown up then you do.” Flare couldn’t help but stick out his tongue as he slipped the other leather glove on his other hand.
Flare laughed, “Nero and I are a bit…off . I guess that is what happens when you have to share a body.” Flare smirked leaning close to Reno’s face, “You go a bit loopy.”
Flare stepped back giving Reno his space knowing the other man didn’t want to come into contact with him incase thoughts were exchanged. “Just so you know only Nero can read your thoughts and only if you touch his skin. So touching his clothing or mine is safe.” Flare shrugged, “But not touching us at all is the safest path.”
Flare took another step away but then spun back to Reno, “Care to give me a tour?” He asked quirking up his eye brow at Reno.
Reno glared at Flare at his dig. "Slum kids grow up pretty fast," He stated thinking it obvious so his tone was less than pleasant. Flare was behaving as though they were friends and last he checked they weren't. Again if Avalanche didn't regard him a friend, and those goodies had known him a lot longer than this shady goody had, then the certainly weren't friends. Flare had mistaken his civility for a softening in his opnion. Reno may have said he wasn't half bad but that was just his way of saying he wasn't gonna try and beat the stuffing out of him any time soon.
Reno laughed condensendengly. "That all? I know someone who beats you hands down," How about having a Gaian entity shoved in your mortal shell then not letting it take possession so who was naturally more than a bit pissed off at the world. See. He did pay attention to some of those meetings that took place especially the big ones - like Reeve meeting with Rufus to spill the beans on what had happened. They had been running around like maddies trying to help Avalanche and the WRO make sense of everything and elminate DeepGround. If only Rufus hadn't turned that sparkly leaf over then the'd be sitting back and enjoying the show....for a while until the realised the world was threatened....again. Avalanche must feel like the just cleaned up then the world shook itself and all the crap came tumbling out.
Was....Flare trying to come on to him? Reno was confused because the advance - had it been one at all - had been received with wary caution, intruige, curiousity, and anger. Reno shook his head. "Why? There ain't much to see here. The Square is still being done up since Bahamut went and smooshed the shrine, yo," The design had taken a couple of years and it looked like construction was now under way. It was the only interesting thing about the place realy.
Flare had had enough of this guy, he was too weird, too unpredictable. Flare turned on his heels and walked away from Reno. The red head was of no use to him anyway, Between himself and Nero they could navigate their way around. Flare shook his head and banished the red head from his mind. No point wasting precious space on him.
Reno rolled his eyes. Flare had decided he had enough already. Boy that was quicker than usual. Reno was kinda proud he managed to irritate someone so quickly. It usually took a little longer before they decided that he was too strange/weird/unusual/ insane for them to deal with. It was that, or they stuck around and attempted to harm him in some way.
Reno ran catching up with Flare. "Seriously, there's nothing to see," He protested. "You'd have to go to like Costa Del Sol or Golden Saucer to do anything exciting, yo,"
Greate. Flare was going to want to do that now wasn't he? Why did he open his big fat gob?! Reno shook his head at himself. "Edge is only a wee bit over three years old. I guess...there's the ice rink...bowling...cinema..." Reno listed with difficulty. "There's nothing to see though," He stressed. he himself didn't want to hang out here but it was too annoying to go anywhere else.
Flare raised his eye brow at Reno and stopped walking his arms crossed over his chest, “So now you do want to hang around me? You know, you are without a doubt the weirdest person I have ever met…save maybe for Seltex.” Flare shrugged blowing some of his unruly black hair from his eyes.
Flare had put up with a fair few annoying people in his life time, especially during the war where some of the commanders were grumpy old men who thought they knew everything. Flare much to their disgust had put them in their place with Nero’s military help. Nero was good with tactics and it had made Flare look like quite a genius. Though he did lose a lot of his credibility when Nero revealed himself as they realized Nero had been the brains behind Flare’s brawn all along.
Now standing in front of him was the most annoying and unpredictable man he had ever met and it was getting to him now. He turned and began to walk once more.
Nero began to stir from his slumber, he was lying on the green grass of the black abyss... calling it the black abyss was no longer the right term but Flare and himself had gotten too lazy to rename it.
Groaning he sat up and looked around, Flare was in control. With that thought everything returned to him. Nero closed his eyes too see through Flare's eyes, he was talking to Reno and then he turned and walked away.
Reno rolled his eyes. Flare and Nero...that was strange...both of them were, but there was a part of him that wanted to say 'good riddance' and saunter in the other direction without a care in the world as to what happened to either of them. Really, their habit of switching possession would run them into trouble since they appeared to do that at the lightest hint of agression, including their own. Wasn't that something people kept quiet? Vinnie sure didn't turn into one of his fluffy alter egos when someone said boo behind his back. The other part of him though, wanted to make sure Nero didn't do anything stupid. Gaia was still on edge after everything the Planet had been put through. They wouldn't take too kindly to someone who was rifling through their heads. Gaia it was like the Black Materia.
Reno decided in no uncertain terms to mention that little number. Or materia at all, in any degree. The odd pair didn't need to know that a fair few people could cast magic and wondering briefly if there was any Water about. It never usually came in that handy, being the weakest of the offensive magic.
"So touchy," Reno sighed tiredly. "Don't get out much do ya?" He asked brightly ignoring Flare's annoyance. He had plenty of practice at being deaf.
Flare almost let out a feral growl but held it back, “What makes you think that?” He asked Reno. It was true, Nero was a bit of a control freak when it came to their body. Flare stayed in the mind for days, sometimes weeks just watching his friend move and live his life.
Nero edged towards the surface of the mind but he stopped as he felt the barriers Flare had set up to stop him from taking over. They wouldn’t last long, it took up far too much energy it was just for now while Flare was worried that Nero might still be in a bad mood. It was strange for Nero to be the one locked in the mind, he could still remember the time that he had sealed Flare away and put him into a deep sleep that he was only able to wake out of because of the Fire god Adar released him so he could help Nero.
Flare half wanted to punch Reno and half wanted to talk and be his friend. The Red head was so confusing and he really didn’t know what to do, it was like with Amy, she had confused him so much. Flare shook his head, this Reno was nothing like his love, he was a fool for comparing them as if they were equals.
Reno wondered if he had pushed Flare to the edge and he was going to hit him. It wouldn't surprise him really since it happened quite often even with his friends. It was just his nature even if he did it deliberately most of the time. It seemed even when he tried to be nice - Rufus had ordered him to and Tseng looked a hair short of shooting him in the head - he still had the knack to piss people off. Flare seemed more irritated than before, his tone, hard but it just told Reno that he was right.
Reno didn't really have a reason, more of a hunch and his annoying ways again. Flare did seem a little stiff, rusty in the people department - quick to burn you to the ground - but it wasn't like Reno himself all that good with people, here was the evidence before him, and Flare did seem to be picking it put OK. Hmm just that there was two people living in one body and one had to have more continious control aaannnnddd he had wanted to irritate him?
Reno shrugged. Truthfully he hadn't been expected to have to answer it. Most poeple just glared and growled at him or snapped 'what?' "Going to different worlds. Wouldn't the person who's mostly in control be the one to visit first? Cuz otherwise it confuses the natives?"
OK just making this stuff up but hey, this was new to him. So Vincent had Chaos and stuff but it wasn't like he was requried to interact with him all that much.
"But I'm right," Reno stated. It was Flare's words choice the tone that told him. Mostly the word choice. It was defensive.
Flare clenched his fist, he really wanted to bash the red head, it was so tempting. He let out some air from his nose and turned to Reno again. “Yes, you are correct. This in all rights is Nero’s body not mine so he is in control more then me.”
Reno was irritating him, he had been a fun toy at first but his erratic behavior was getting on his nerves. Flare closed his eyes and then opened them again staring at Reno with an intense look that he had mastered over the years, “Why are you following me? Aren’t you scared Nero is going to take over and read your thoughts?” Part of Flare wanted to scare Reno away and continue his comfortable existence with Nero, but the other part wanted someone else to be there, someone he could talk to and let himself be independent from Nero for just a little while.
Nero closed his eyes and read Flare’s thoughts, he knew what his companion wanted, and he knew the conflict that Flare was battling. “Flare, I understand that you want another companion stop fighting with yourself. I approve, it’s for the best.”
Flare continued to stare at Reno before turning and continuing to walk.
"I had a friend who was in a similar predicament," Reno offered although it wasn't his story to tell but since when did he care about that? He used the word 'friend' loosely. It wasn't as fi they guy had a warm chat with anyone. Reno couldn't even see him playing with kids but then there was Denzel and Marlene...
Reno shook his head. Why did his brain go to such weird places?
Scared? Yeah it was pretty terrifying standing next to someone who could tumble your mind back to its darkest of corners and lock you there for all eternity and potentially rewrite your personality (He wasn't sure how this worked but he had a vivid imagination), or create memories that never happened. ON the other hand there were a lot of people out there who would be devasted by the havoc they could do. Truthfully he wasn't entirely sure Nero wasn't a threat to the planet and he rather liked the River of Life flowing steadily thank you very much.
"Dunno you tell me. You guys are the experts right?" Reno asked cynically. "Or were you lying?"
Reno kept up with him while they walked. These guys were mysterious and he happened to like solving puzzles. There was that challenge thing too. Reno wanted to stick around knowing that his refusing of jumping inside Nero's head was probably still grating. He was a Turk, and just because he wasn't active didn't mean he still didn't think like one. He wasn't going to crack. He was trained and captured enough times to know that some things you want, you just shouldn't have. Or can't.
"Escaping...must be nice sometimes," Reno said trying to be nice and prompt conversation, something both Flare and Nero didn't seem to think was a necessity nor enjoyable given their unsual gift.
Flare growled, he was not the most accepting person at the best of times and now Nero had them been stalked by this...Turk? Flare racked his brain before deciding that he had indeed named the man correctly, he was not overly fond of Nero's gift. While Nero was able to sort through memories and thoughts easily, Flare struggled somewhat.
Flare sighed turning to Reno, "Okay, here is the deal. You can follow me, or stalk me or what ever and I won't hurt you, but only on one condition. You have to stop trying to mess with my head. Unlike Nero I am not good with other people's thoughts. I try not to look into them like Nero does, having so many memories and thoughts in my brain hurts, and it makes me really irritated, the last thing I need is you making my head ache anymore." Flare stared at Reno for a moment, "Deal?"
((sorry It is short, library computers are akward))
Reno barked out a laugh. "Admitted weakness. Different," He commented.
Messing with Flare's head? It was a fun though but it hadn't been his aim. Flare should have kept his mouth shut and not said that because now it was the only thing on his mind and it was sounding appealing. Besides, they had it comning, devling into places they had no right to be. This guy had reduced privacy to a house made intirely of clear crytal glass and had the nerve to ask him to cut it out.
"Sure," He said. He had no intentions of sticking to it. Flare was more tolerable than Nero - Nero whom he wanted to beat senseless and wasn't entirely sure why he hadn't tried already - and at least spoke like a human being. Was it possible to speak like one when you aren't?
He won't hurt me? Too late for that. Reno's emotional self was difficult to place or predict. Most of the time he seemed only capable of irritatingly happy or anger and vengeance and hatred. He had lived too long as a killer to not be callous and cold but this being before him had touched upon terror which opened Reno up to everything.
He hated it.
It made him hate Nero for it. Hate both of them. Hate was a festering and simmering thing. Reno could hate and no one could know about it ever. They passed him off as stupid and untalented but they didn't realise Reno was always hiding. No one had ever truly seen him and it was petrifying to think that perhaps Nero just might have.
On the otherhand if Nero had, he would have known Reno would have refused the offer of jumping inside his head. His mind was a complicated and twisted place.
The other part of Reno admired them. He wasn't entirely sure why but he did. He recognised a ruthlessness tinged with mercy. They were relentless and calculating, passionate and full of emotion all at the same time. He didn't need to see their mind to know that.
It didn't take a mind reader to see that Flare was different from Nero and perhaps the better out of the two. Nero and he didn't get off to a good start but there was something frank and simple about Flare that Reno liked. Was it possible to hurt one without hurting the other? After all, it wasn't really Flare he was mad at.
Nero sat inside Flare's mind working his way through a life time of thoughts and memories, Reno had one twisted mind, and that was saying a lot since Nero had seen into the minds of many, he had seen the thoughts of assassains and murderers and only been sickened but looking at Reno, he pitied him. He wanted to apologise to Reno, but Flare was keeping him at bay. Nero didn't have enough energy to fight with Flare right now, so he kept himself busy by disecting each of Reno's thoughts and memories and then putting them back together in their proper order to make it more understandable, the more he looked at the more Nero came to pity Reno and his hard life.
Flare buried his gloved hands in his pockets, he watched Reno with curious eyes as he got flashes of his memories from Nero. "So where are the others?" Flare asked quietly, "Your companions?" Flare wasn't one for mindless chatter, this question was one that really made him curious. He had seen flashes of Reno with other people, in particular a muscular bald man.
Flare walked out of the quieter areas of midgar and into edge which was bustling with people, he took particular care not to brush up against anyone while Nero was sorting through Reno's memories, skin to skin contact could cause other memories to get mixed among them, not only making Nero's life difficult but Flare's head would pound from the strain of holding so much information at once in his concious mind. Flare went so far as to jump back to avoid a person who was about to run head long into him as he spoke into a small silver object that he pressed to his ear, "What was that thing?" Flare asked dumbly.
Reno kept Flare in his line of vision. He watched him out the corner of his eye with the suspicious feeling that he was being analysed. It was a scary thought. Even Reno didn't want to psycho-analyse his own mind, no matter what mental state he happend to be in at the time. He couldn't imagine what it was like to sift through someone's head and pic it a part, piece it back together and see what you get. How could that not make them feel ill? It was all so personal and very very private! Besides Reno's had was like a broken jigsaw puzzle and he wasn't entirely sure all the pieces were still there.
Of course Flare was naturally more quiet that Nero. He seemed that way anyway. Perhaps he was just being anti-social? Never knew with quiet people. Rude could be nice when he wanted, or as dangerous as a lit yet unexploded firework.
Reno frowned. Flare seemed to actually want to know. It was the most geniune tone that had come from either of them. Perhaps it was that, that compelled Reno to reply. "Colleagues. And I don't know. They are out there somewhere. Nero seems to think so,"
Reno noticed Flare avoided contact with people. Maybe he really wasn't so itno the whole mind reading thing?
