Note to all people entering this thread:

This is a very special thread, as after running the idea by Nathan, I have set this in FFVII Crisis Core era. This has a number of ramifications:

Any FFVII characters are what they would be in the time of Crisis Core, i.e. Cloud is about fourteen/fifteen, Zack is about sixteen, and all other characters are their respective ages. If your character does not appear in CC all that much you must at least give an explanation how they got where they are. This takes place in Midgar and the ShinRa building, so if you were Tifa I would expect a credible reason why you are there and not in Nibelheim.  Example, she came to visit Cloud because of something that happened before he left and ran away from home to get there. There are a few notable exceptions however- the fact that there are no clones of Sephiroth as yet and that I doubt Vincent would awaken, much less return to ShinRa.

If you are a non FFVII character you have a bit of an advantage, because as with all worlds you can kinda just turn up at any age you like and by whatever means you have. The lifestream can be temperamental but it likes guests. ^_^

---------------------------

Cloud was not one to give up easily, and certainly one training class was not going to throw him off his dream of SOLDIER, of glory or being like the great SOLDIER hero, Sephiroth. But one thing he was getting sick of was his sergeant constantly throwing abuse at him, pairing him with clearly larger and stronger opponents in class. Sure he had Zack behind it all throwing compliments of him being a natural at sword work and a quick learner but the young teen was still small compared to some of the other cadets. Small for his age, his mother had said fondly, telling him he’d soon catch up with the others. But Cloud was fifteen and not showing any signs of getting anywhere near the size of the others. Nor the strength. He could hit them well, but without any force it did not do him any good.

It had been a tough day for him and that hardly covered the melancholy mood he was in, practicing kata in one of the larger abandoned training rooms as all the other cadets had left to explore Midgar with their Friday night off.  The blond trooper did not always wait behind, often some of his few friends would convince him that coming out was not a bad idea. Those night usually ended with either someone in trouble or drunk, whether it was them or something they even vaguely knew.

The teen had opted out this time, training clearing his mind for the moment at least, kata were repetitive, you could do them over and over almost mindlessly until your muscles burned in agony. True the sword he wielded was a dulled blade which you could not harm a fly with, but it was his weapon for the moment, cadets were not allowed any more dangerous weapons. It was a good thing too sometimes. Teenage boys with new skills thought they owned the world and that was never a good thing.  Certainly not for a fifteen year old effeminate trooper who happened to be smaller than them.

But he still coped and he was glad for that.

Reno was bored. It was rather easy for the young man to become tired with the tedium that surrounded him between missions or training - which mostly consisted of trying to beat Rude to a pulp, ending up in the infirmary, target practice or another skill developing technique like stealth, breaking and entering and stuff like that. Paperwork was something that Reno had classed as an unmentionable, not worth his time and it piled higher and higher in stacks of hazerdous impending papercuts which he'd complain about all day. Tseng of course would be ever unsympathetic and merely state that he should have done it before hand but if he was lucky he would be able to wangle some attention off Cissnei.

Cissnei and the others had left without him. It was the odd occasion where he was without Rude. Today Commander had sat him down and forced him to do that terrible terrible paperwork in an ordinary dull black pen until a quarter of the pile was done. He kept drifting in and out to ensure he was actually doing his task and theatened to tie him to the chair with heavy rope, and almost did after Reno made a comment that he didn't appreciate.

Reno wandered to the training area for the newbie cadets and such. They were so much fun to hang out with and corrupt. On many occasions Reno convinced then - however inadvertantly - that SOLDIER was the way and that the Turks simply were too weird for them. Reno always thought it was a shame they shut their minds to them, especially when reaching higher ranks, because the Turks were both mental and cool at the same time. There were no other people like them. Tseng also had a truce, a friendship with Zackary Fair trying to eliminate rivalry between them. He supposed Tseng was right since it really was a pain when the Turks were serious and they had to work together and all they did was niggle but Reno also found rivalry to be a good thing. Good for the soul and building character and all that stuff. Still Reno wasn't much too fussy about who he talked to.

It was a Friday night and it was getting on a bit but there had to be some poor lonely guy down there frantically training, or some nut who was just that obsessed with getting into SOLDIER. True enough he was right. This one seemed training with a worried expression, slim, not quite the sort of build required for SOLDIER but surely he could bulk up if he put his mind to it. His hair golden and spiked reminded him of a Chocobo which was amusing. He was pretty which pleased Reno since he liked pretty poeple; a lot. His dedication had to be both admired and considered sad.

"Practicing against a real traget is more fun, but then, going out on a Friday night makes more sense," Reno said revealing himself after watching for a few minutes. He hoped he could convince him to go out with him sometwhere since he was bored, perhaps get him drunk. These guys who trained dead late were stubborn. Reno and discovered this through experience.

The teen’s muscles were beginning to protest already from the repetition, he needed more stamina, more strength otherwise he would never make it. He had speed and he had the agility and talent with a sword, but those two areas seemed to bring him down so often. After all what was the use of being able to hit someone when really it was not hard enough to actually do them much harm?

But the blond was stubborn enough that he would keep going until he got that certain no, not that he believed he would. No matter what the damn instructors said.

Cloud felt the redhead’s gaze and heard his footsteps long before he had actually laid eyes on the man. It was that burning feeling of being watched that he attempted to ignore for a bit hoping whoever it was would get bored with watching the repetitive movements and leave him alone. That apparently was not going to be the case as the eyes continued to watch.

It was not until Reno really spoke that the young swordsman looked up. The redhead could not have been all that much older than he was, though the blond was not sure he had ever seen the other before in the cadet training, which he supposed might not be all that odd considering how many people were actually in the training program, which was needed because only a small part of that would actually go into SOLDIER. The rest would be sent to the regular army, practical cannon fodder next to the strength of SOLDIER. But not even the teenager was ignorant to what the suit the other was wearing meant, no matter how ‘relaxed’ the way the stranger was wearing it was- Turk.

All the swordsman truly knew about that particular group of people was the two things he had been told, one: that it was a Turks job to do all ShinRa’s dirty work basically whatever the company wanted done and wanted done low key, and secondly that they were not to be trusted. How much of that was true was an entirely different question. Cloud knew all too well that rumors often warped the truth to something unrecognizable. It had happened to him too many times to remember.

“Yes, but I’ve had a bad enough day and I don’t need to spend my night dragging someone home because they are drunk. Because that always seems to happen whenever I do go out.” At least that had not been him just yet; part of him did not want to know the promised pain of the hangover afterwards.

(Though getting Cloud drunk would be hilarious XD)

Reno just grinned. If that was meant to scare him off then it certainly wasn't going to work. The irritated 'back off' tone wasn't something that worked on him, especially since he got it from most of the Turks and received it through daily glares from Rude, or the legendary eye roll. (True it was difficult to see when Rude was glaring or rolling his eyes but they had been partners for so long now he just knew what his partner was doing behind those dark tints.)

Reno watched amused as the blond eyed his suit. He had thought the older dudes would have warned the youngins that he might drop by and hang around for a while...and try and leech their sanity from them so he could function without blowing the place up for a while. Reno had to stop and think about the last time he set fire the bings - accidently this time - and how the building had to be evacuated. Needless to say the Boss hadn't appreciated it anymore than he appreciated his punishment, which he really didn't like to mention.

"All the more reason to unwind dude!" Reno exclaimed. "You'll never get through if you are too tense," It was true. he had seen it before when he guys just breakdown or burn out because they had been trying way to hard to get through. ShinRa did like dedication but...it wasn't just your body that had to be strong. Anyway, a lotta people figured SOLDIER was better than the Turks and maybe the were, and maybe they weren't, but in the end it all came down the same thing really. They both took orders, killed and had to do things they didn't necessarily agree with. Ah well, people needed someone to blame, he guessed. Besides it was different for him, when he started out, he had nothing to lose.

Reno gave him a look that he was non too happy. "Who says you'd be dragging me home kid?" He was testing the guy, and teasing him too but if this guy wanted to be in SOLDIER...well let's just put this down to the fact he wanted to go out drinking and perhaps if he helped the blond out a little he'd agree. It was something he'd have to learn anyway, not the take the situation at face value, nor anyone else. Reno shrugged mentally, it was ironic really, people still did that with him despite working with him for years. Anyway he could drink most under the table: it took quite a lot to get him drunk even without the Mako.

(Soz for the late reply. Awwwwwzzzz Cute. Take my headache would ya? )

The blond however while he recognized the suit, could not have named the other nor know his reputation for being hard to deter when he had his mind on something. But then again Reno knew nothing of Cloud, and did not know he could be just as stubborn as any Turk. One of the reasons he had been in the SOLDIER program so long- he just would not give up. He couldn’t, he refused to go home without being a SOLDIER and that was that. It was why he was working so hard, because the more he trained the better he got, and the more chance he had.

The main things he had been warned about to do with Turks was basically to never trust them; they would sell out their own families if it gave them profit. This in more general terms meant to stay away from them as much as possible. Though like any teenage boy he couldn’t help but be that little bit curious into why. Was it just what they did as a job that made the Turks so untrustworthy? Were the rumours about the group’s activities even true? But it was perhaps not such a great idea to try and figure it out for himself.

“I won’t get through either if I don’t have the skill,” he countered, “And for that I need practice.” And hence what I am doing, the blond however did not say as much as really truly whoever the redhead was probably still had more power and standing in ShinRa than he did and could probably get him kicked out if he really wanted to. Maybe not alone, but he probably could so saying stuff like that might not be the smartest idea.

In a way both Turks and SOLDIERs were very similar, the fact that both took orders without question whether it meant killing or not. But there was more of an ideal of honour, bravery and heroics in SOLDIER- that promise of making something of yourself that drew countless young teens in. Kids like Cloud.

Blue eyes gave him a blank stare, “I’m underage, so you would be the only one drinking in my books. Therefore also being the only one who would be getting drunk.” Not that that had stopped Cloud having a drink every time he did go out, mainly because the other cadets pressured him into it, but if that excuse would get the redhead to leave him alone, he was all for it.

This conversation was proving to be interesting despite Cloud being difficult. It didn't put him off in the least but in fact spurred him on to either achieve his goal or irritate him enough that he would explode or something. Reno wondered if he bugged him enough whether he was see red and attack him. Reno had managed to do that before - he had been disciplined - but at least the cadet had learned something. Cloud was a challenge if he was going to be like this and Reno did love challanges.

"You're underage?" Reno asked unimpressed. "That's your excuse? You think you'd be caught or somethin'?" Because hanging out with a Turk was gonna get you a free pass for a lot of things and who cares if he was underage. Jeeze this guy just wanted him to leave didn't he? Tough luck friend.

Reno took a calculated step before deciding to circle the kid to get a good look at him. "Unless of course, you don't actually like drinking do you? Is that why? Or did the bigger kids not let you play?" Reno pouted mockingly.

Reno looked sad for couple of minutes before exclaiming in a loud voice. "Oh well. More fun for me!" He waved his arms before dropping them back down and staring at Cloud. Kid was right, he needed some work but with the right motivation he'd probably get there, providing he didn't break before then that is. It wasn't the same for the Turks being crazy was fine, sort of, as long as you followed orders then why would they care? Crazy incites creativiy and imagination which is required on a daily basis so being bonkers could help. SOLDIERS on the other hand....for the determined guys, well some just weren't cut out for it, and the others they had something to prove and couldn't see that they were good until they'd made it all the way. It was sad really.

Reno raised an eyebrow back to his cynical self again. "And you think practicing in here, by yourself, all on your onesies, is gonna help?" Wrong. Oh sure this was good for technical drills but for nothing else. "You gotta take action if you wanna get anywhere at all and sometimes that invovles gettin' into a brawl at a pub,"

Reno was the perfect picture of innocence but he was being serious. It built up serious survival skills when faced with three big brutes with your one skinny friend. Sure learned quick that way.

Cloud was trying to keep controlled in from of the redhead at the very least, though he was smart enough to know that attacking was not a good idea. The redhead was likely to have some mako and he was a runty cadet- he didn’t stand a chance in all truth. So evading the man was his goal, however infinitesimal at the moment.

It seemed that the ‘underage’ excuse had fallen through, leaving the stranger with a reason to bait him- just what he needed. The blond was really no stranger to being baited no matter how much his instinct wanted to launch into a defence and steamroller the Turk as best as he could. It would end up nowhere except him wanting to prove the other wrong and therefore falling straight into the man’s arms- which would probably be exactly what he would do if he was drunk and the redhead would leave him in some deserted alley or something. From the rumours that certainly seemed like a Turk thing to do.

He raised an eyebrow at the first question, “I don’t look it?” he paused for a moment, “I can’t just say no to all this and expect you to go away can I?” Blue eyes watched warily at the step, taking one of his own backwards further away.

Practice was what had cemented in the blond’s mind. The more practice he got the better he would be and the further he would get. He needed more strength and endurance so he did long hours in his spare time, some in the weights room but he had forgone that this particular evening because he had been frustrated. He would have only managed to injure himself on weights.

“Would I be here if I didn’t think so?” Cloud shook his head, blond spikes swaying as he did so, “And pub brawls are for those who truly want to get pulverised. Now if you will excuse me, I have to get back to what I was doing. And besides I thought you seemed to be one more for clubbing than going into some lonely pub.”

Clubbing was after all was the choice of practically everyone he knew- and those had been the places he had ended up first and foremost. Pubs were for absolutely drowning yourself in alcohol, like middle aged men who had lost their jobs and the depressed.

Reno was having fun. He'd wait it out and see whether he could ruffle his feathers enough that he'd take a chance and swing at him. It would be his gumtion that would save him, that and he really didn't want to explain why a cadet got pulverised (if he required the training as much as he said he did) when he was diligently training when all his peers were getting soaked in beer. They had a head start. Most turned to alcohol to get them through the day after doing the job for a while. There was something about working for ShinRa that eat away at people had they clung onto their conscience. Good thing Reno didn't really care all that much.

It would allow Reno to see just how good Cloud was and entertain him for a while. Of course he'd have to get on at him for loosing it though. Can't have that. He could burn off some steam for a while, all that pent up energy that could only be realsed through, well hitting something with a satisfying crunch that didn't originate from his own body.

Reno smirked at Cloud. "If I was going to do anything, I would have done it by now," Although there really was no telling whether he would suddenly change his mind at any given moment, or attack simply because he felt like it. He was a mystery even to himself sometimes.

"You'd be surprised how useful pub brawls can be. Attention to detail when everythin' is comin' at ya, knowin' exactly what everyone else is doin' and being flexible. It's good for a awareness," Reno wasn't sure if he believed anything he just said but it was what he said when people asked why he started them in the first place. Practice. It was twisted but what did he care?

Reno shook his head. "Never said it would be a lonely pub but that does seem to fit your style. You not spar with anyone? Who's your mentor?" If the kid didn't have one he was gonna need one. Cadets needed a guide, someone to look up to, everyone did in this company or they never made it. The ****y guys who took no advice and never listened - yes he had been known to do so, on the otherhand there was no way in hell he was going back to the slums - usually fell flat on their faces because there was something they thought they knew already. Seniors didn't like it either.

Reno by circling had a couple of ideas the guy could work on. He stuck to his guns, that was good, and yes he was sad and lonely practicing on a Friday night but you had to admire his comitment. Reno wondered if he was one of the good guys. If so, he wasn't gonna like it here.

Slowly and surely Reno was wearing the blond down, who had really just wanted a quiet training session to go over his endurance through his kata, then have a nice shower and pass out on his bed before the others got back- which in many cases would not be until early morning. Maybe that was too much to ask.

“Still does not seem like something I would enjoy doing.” No the whole bar brawl was sounding less and less appealing the more the loudnmouthed male talked about it. Cloud had been in fights before, in fact all too often he found himself fending against one person or another for various different reasons which usually had nothing to do with his own choice but rather people ganging up on him. It was not something he enjoyed so why should he want to perpetuate it?

It did not make sense to him at all truthfully.

“My mentor is out on mission,” the blond said warily, not knowing wether the redhead was trying to report him to someone, “Lieutenant General Zackary Fair, he’s not due back for another week.” Not that Zack was likely to think ill of him at all. The man who was practically living sunshine himself seemed to think he was the most adorable thing in the world- it was something he declared often and very loudly. But there were problems with having the black haired man as a mentor, ever since he had risen up as the General’s SiC he’d been more busy than ever with missions and dreaded paperwork. Which meant that the blond was not seeing him nearly as much.

Which was not helping the whole training situation at all.

And would not probably help in getting the still unnamed Turk to leave him alone.

The Turks circling was also doing nothing for his nerves, especially since it reminded him of a Nibel wolf stalking its prey- and in that situation you really did not want to be the prey. It was an action which went against the redhead’s ‘I’m not going to do anything to you’ status.

The blond placed his sword between him and the other defensively, mainly because he had simply had enough of the man. “Go away.” It weas not an all too aggressive move but enough to show Reno Cloud was just sick and tired of this and at the end of his rope. It didn't sound nearly as threatening as he had hoped but it was something.

It wasn't in the Turk's nature to be warm and comforting or anything like Zack surely was. Zack had charmed Tseng who was all for unity between the two divisions - it certainly would make life a lot easier if they could just get on. Meh, back to the rivarly thing again.

Reno grinned. "Ahhhh, The Puppy," Reno said with a tone of fondness in his voice. Anyone who could thaw the ice protecting Tseng's heart was due for some hefty admiration, although Zack just didn't seem to stop with the lovin'. That part was kind of irritating. "There are worse people to be under," There was a deliberate dreamy quality but he did mean it in business terms too. The only problem was that while Zack was encouraging...at least he'd look after the kid.

"OK so there doesn't have to be a brawl. I can live without it you know," Cloud was kind of annoying in his honourable, dutiful training but his stubborness got Reno to stay just to see if he could wear him down. So far he was doing quite well, being all firm and bossy.

Reno raised an eyebrow. "Go away? Go away?!" It wasn't that he was told to leave that offended him, it was the word choice. "Is that it? That's the best you can do? Stand hiding behind your sword and hope I have better things to do?"

Reno paced a little. "What are they teaching you?" he muttered. He knew SOLDIER training was different from Turk training but still, they should be able to sound menacing.

"Touch luck friend, because right at this moment, I have nothing better to do,"

Cloud was used to hearing people talk about Zack with fondness with the simple reasoning that everyone was fond of Zack, he had a massive underground fanclub and tended to make secretaries swoon when he walked past. It was a s bad as Sephiroth except most of the dealings of the fanclub had not come to light as yet. Didn’t mean the teen had not been approached by a fairly bold secratry who had asked whether his mentor used gel or not- more than once.

The blond shrugged “I guess-mental age not withstanding.” And Cloud did appreciate the other- he really did, Zack had been the brother he had never had, but just sometimes he felt like that of the two of them he happened to be the older one not the younger.

The teen bristled at the suggestion, “Well you didn’t seem to get the more subtle hints that I want to be left in peace. I am also not stupid enough to attack someone who must have some mako unless I want to loose and badly.” Basic rule- just don’t try it at all unless you have no choice and even then don’t expect to win. Maybe not something the instructors had been teaching but any cadet knew instictively as much. Enemies tended to be good, unenhanced and all but don’t try to fight against your own side.

The problem with Cloud soundeing menacing was not his voice but the fact he still was a rather adorable fifteen year old who looked like, as Zack had put it, he needed a cuddle. So the enemies that came after him wouldn’t kill him but they would not take him at all seriously either.

Mental age? That was just Zack's way of living and who could blame him? SOLDIER saw some horrible stuff and did quite a bit of questionable duties too. It was different for them though. They were military and had ranks like General and didn't do all the sneaky sh** like abductions, tortures...excuse me interrogations and hunting down those who commit treason. Whether they had actually commited treason, or ShinRa has simply gotten irritated with their annoying necessity to breath was unclear but it wasn't their place to ask questions.

"Don't begrudge his demeanor. He's been doing this longer than you," There he was giving out advice and being all admonishing and teacherly. Gaia this kid needed guiding. Reno guessed he was due to do a small amount of good after killing about 50 people on the last mission he was on, 10 before that and kidnapping that dude the other day. Why not give a little back if it was going to help the company? There was no telling how he'd feel on any given day. Yesterday, he wouldn't even have bothered with this kid.

Reno grinned and bounced a little. "It's called persistence. You've been displaying a lot of it too and the best way to learn is to actually fight someone and not swing a bit of metal at air," Oh dear...did that sound like he was offering to teach him how to fight? Man all he wanted was a beer or five and here he was persuading a sour emo teen to come have some fun. Too many people in the establishment require relaxation and a loosening of the limbs.

Reno sighed. "Your stance. You need to move your foot out a little otherwise a good shove will knock you over," He said in bored tones. "As for endurance? Do suicides. Although I ain't gonna call the clean up crew if you finally do what the name suggests because you've gone demented with boredom,"

Reno paused for a moment before deciding to add the last bit. "And crunches. Lots and lots of crunches. Then you'll have a swooning fan club of your own that will never leave you alone night or day and who will chase you down the corridors and terrorize you with giggles!" he exclaimed happily.

The cadet did not seem to get any less wary of the redhead no matter what turnaround there may or may not have been in his attitude towards the younger male.

No, Cloud did not begrudge Zack his demeanor, and while the blond often felt like he was babysitting the older SOLDIER sometimes he had a way of teaching things that made him master moves faster than ever. Still he couldn’t help but scowl whenever the man went out of his way to ruffle the blond’s hair, or make up a myriad of nicknames which ranged from kid all the way to Spike and Cloudy. In the long run however he could not have had a more caring mentor nor one who could have gotten under his defenses as fast as Zack had.

It seemed an automatic response for Cloud to quickly check his stance at Reno’s suggestion, no matter how bored the redhead seemed to give it. Most of ShinRa’s instructors sounded bored most of the time.

At the mention of the fan club blue eyes turned a little to confusion, sure he had always wanted to be a hero, like Sephiroth or even like Zack but from what he had seen he was not exactly sure he wanted the crazed fanatics that went with it. Especially the type of one that did not leave you alone night or day, as Reno was suggesting. Admiration was more than enough.

One thing was clear now however the blond realized putting his sword down with a sigh, tonight he was certainly not getting any practice in. He might as well give up and head to the showers while he might still have some hint of an element of surprise on his side in doing so- lest the Turk stop him doing that as well. Cloud was certainly not putting it past the other to try. Ignoring the other he went to the rack to put away the borrowed sword grabbing his bag in the process.

(Go ahead and stop him though ;) )

Reno grinned to hismelf when Cloud checked his stance right away. It was good to mess with the newbies, and even the old ones too. The look of torment on Tseng's face is always so satisfying...that is until he makes him scrub the floor with a toothbrush. Right now though, there was a gorgeous young - and irritated - blond before him who thought he could escape. Shame. It was just his favourite kind of challenge! The kid would come around eventually. They all do, even if it is just to ensure that he eventually leaves.

Perhaps when Zack got back he should haunt his every footstep just to irritate the kid. Reno wondered how long it would take before the guy snapped. Only problem with that was, there was a risk Zacky boy might decide to land him one and he wouldn't necessarily pull his punches.

When Cloud decided to put his things away Reno decided his subtle approach just wasn't working. Now, he had never been known for tact - he rarely had much use for it - and although he tried it just wasn't working. So a mischevious grin lit him his face and he did the next best thing.

"How about I take you to the proper training room?" Reno said meaning the fancy one with all the technical stuff and the holograms. "I get you in, you let me take you for...ice cream,"

Reno looked bored and was a little irritated at himself, but it was one good deed. He wasn't gonig to melt or anything...was he?

Zack was actually surprisingly protective of his teenage apprentice so yes it was certainly credible that if the redhead messed with the cadet when he was around Reno may be in for some problems. It was a pity the man was on assignment really Cloud really did miss the man after all and he needed as much practice as possible as the SOLDIER exams were in a month. He needed to pass.

Swinging his bag over his shoulder Cloud paused for a moment not sure if trusting Reno was the greatest thing to be doing, he was a Turk after all and he had a feeling that the ice-cream was either going to be spiked or even less subtle meant the redhead wished to drag him into a pub or club, or something of the like. But not even Zack had managed to get the clearance just yet to get him into the SOLDIER level training room to fight against its holographic enemies and even since the black haired teen had mentioned it the trooper had wanted to go there.

“Can I trust you? I don’t even know your name yet. And you’re a Turk.” That part was at least half self explanatory. SOLDIERs and their cadets were taught not to trust the Turks and probably with good reason. They were supposed to be able to sell out their own families without so much as a blinking if it meant their gain. The fact he was asking if he could trust him still was further than many would go.

“You might abandon me to the higher ups when we get there or at some bar after your ‘ice cream’.”

Reno rolled his eyes. "I am Reno," He said. "And you would be?" it was natural not to trust a Turk. Sometimes they couldn't even trust each other - but that was only when they were behaving oddly. You had to watch out for odd behaviour in this job otherwise you'd never know your partner was out to kill you.

That had happened more than once to him.

Apparantly he had irritated more than one Turk into going spare - something that Tseng and Verdot seemed to handle just fine. And to Rude, it was like oil and water. It was great. They were beginning to doubt they could find anyone who could put up with him for more than a week.

"Trusting anyone is a risk Cloud. Zack, me, your parents, your best friend, the waitor - who may very well spit in your food at a moments notice - the chefs. The real question is do you trust yourself?" If you can't it's game over. Turn around now, go home, KO.

Reno raised an eyebrow. "How melodramatic is that? Abandon you to the higher ups. Jeeze. It's not a test kid. Do you wanna go or not?" He said impatiently. Sometimes he did tell the truth. In fact he did it quite a fair bit but people always expected him to lie...

"Cadet Cloud Strife, sir," the blond said simply, because for the time you were a cadet you had no formal rank, only when you took the SOLDIER exam and made it to Third Class or were delegated to the normal army were you given a proper title. In truth ShinRa did not expect most cadets to even last that long- it was one of the reasons their bunks were so sub-standard.

Somehow if Reno had told him that he regularly annoyed people spare, the teen would have believed him, he had not even been around the man for half an hour and he was already felt he was going partly insane.

Trust in people was always something the blond had had trouble with as a kid- then all he had had was his mother, he'd been a runt and therefore weaker compared to the other boys, he'd learnd to defend himself because of that. Even Tifa the closest thing he had had to a friend had backed away in front of the torments sometimes. So the teen did not trust easily, he could count the people who had earned it on one hand.

"I put nothing past a Turk," was his simple response to that. "I'll come but I reserved the right to leave at any time."

"Fair enough," It wasn't like he could protest or anything. Trust was such a dangerous thing after all. Leaving yourself so vulnerable and open wasn't something that Reno could say he could do with easy or without any extreme hesitation. Trusting his partner was essential and then there was Verdot and Tseng but it was almost impossible not to feel at ease with either of them. They'd protect you if they could...or so he hoped.

Reno knew he wasn't the sanest of the Turks, in fact probably one of the most whackiest but at least he knew the difference between a real gun and the training ones (poor sod). It still made him roll his eyes and chuckle but the unforunate soul who had been shot had lost quite a bit of blood and ended up in hospital for a few weeks. Shame.

Moving on. "So what do you prefer Cloud or Strife?" Either way he'd probably go for something along the lines of feather head because really, could he look more like a Chocobo if he tried? Honestly some people had strange styles in the world.

Reno turned more serious. Would now be a bad time to tell him they were sneaking in? It was a Friday night after all etc etc. Who cares anyways? Honestly being able to sneak it just proved your skills. To the Turks at least. Reno wasn't sure what Soldier would think. "Kay, kinda need you to go to the bathroom and loop back K?" Reno said in a questioning manner but with an authoritorial tone behind it. Besides it wasn't Cloudy that would get into trouble anyway.
