"I'm sure it is..." Larxene muttered softly to herself. At leat he hadn't chosen wife or wh*re, she supposed. Probably because he didn't want to end up toasted. 'Truce' or not, the nymph would not tolerate that sort of insult.

Quick steps took her to the dining room after Axel. At least it appeared acceptable. Warm, somewhat cozy and not filled with filth. That was always a plus. For a moment, she recalled a much finer place, a long table set with fancy silverware and glass but she drove the memory from her mind just as quickly as it had come. That was the past. Gone. Dead.

She smiled to Axel, eyes locked upon his as she took the seat closest to him and seated herself in a rather lady-like manner. Her head felt a little fuzzy. Whatever that slop at the tavern was setting in she supposed. Nothing wrong with a bit of a high, it's all nobodies ever got sometimes.

"Well.. so it's not a hole in the wall. Color me impressed. I wonder what she'll bring us."

Axel shrugged. "I haven't been in this world long, but everything I've eaten so far has been good." He lifted his nose and inhaled deeply, smelling fresh bread and some sort of meat wafting from the kitchen.

After a moment of silence, the Nobody looked back at Larxene, expression sobering somewhat. "So, you really plan on tagging along while I track this stupid kid down? I know I'm good-looking, but surely you have better things to be doing." He realized that asking again was somewhat unnecessary, but he was hesitant to inform her of his final destination until he was sure she wasn't going to try anything untoward.

"Good looking? You?" Larxene paused to giggle, bringing a gloved hand to cover her pale lips. Oh there were so many rude things she could say! So many crushing ego blows but perhaps the drink and the fact she was getting what she wanted had mellowed her enough to be less cutting with her tongue. "Maybe if you didn't have spikes like a hedgehog...." Her hand reached out to touch the side of his face, just to see if he'd flinch.

"You're still doubting me? After I gave my word not to harm you little friend and his worthless buddies? Do you think I'd do that lightly, Axel, I mean really." She drew her hand back, tugging at the glove to take it off. "Let me just give you a run down. Marluxia is gone. If he isn't dead, then the f*cker abandoned me - same as he did when I fought that brat. You're the only other nobody I've found and to be honest? I'd rather stick with my own." Her expression turned serious, eyes darkening as they locked onto Axel's.

"There's no more Organization to betray. No reason for you to back stab me, no reason for me to back stab you." Another slight lie as she left out revenge being a reason. "We're on our own, Axel. It's best we stick together. Maybe the keyblade master knows a way out of this whole not existing mess and why we're here. I want answers."

Axel listened in silence, expression uncharacteristically drawn. Her reasoning was not without holes - and he assumed they were purposeful - but was otherwise sound. As long as he could keep the advantages of siding with him outweighing the advantages of getting him back for past betrayal.. He couldn't be sure of what stood between him and finding Roxas, and Larxene was never a bad one to have on your side in a fight.

Some of the tension easing from his shoulders, he offered a short nod. "Fair enough. However.." His lips quirked. "I wouldn't count on Sora knowing anything about why we're here or what we're doing. I feel fairly confident he doesn't even know we're still alive.. or, alive again, as it were. That kid isn't aware of anything farther away than the end of his Keyblade." He snorted, shaking his head. "To think Roxas was a part of that idiot.."

He was kept from speaking further when the proprietress burst back into the room, laden with steaming plates of a richly fragrant combination of chicken and vegetables that was just on this side of thin enough to be termed "stew," with soft white hunks of bread torn from a fresh baguette. "Coq au vin," the woman pronounced shortly, before turning on her heel and marching back into the kitchen.

Axel choked a little, biting back a grin. "Oh, really," he muttered, eyebrows waggling.

Well Axel had one thing right. Sora was a f*cking clueless idiot but he had still managed to best her, a fact which would never sit well with her pride. Maybe assuming he knew something was a bit too hopeful but one never knew. Something might be buried in his subconcious, something she could use...

She might have added to Axel's statement but it seemed the time had come to find out what passed for food in this place. Hmn.. at least it didn't look completely wretched.

Larxene didn't exactly know French but she caught the redhead's expression and the tone of his voice once the woman announced what she assumed was this dish's name. Obviously he knew what those words meant and she presumed it wasn't something good. She eyed the food suspiciously, wondering if she was being served horse balls or something equally as disgusting. It smelled good though.

"If this-" And she gestured to the plate. "-is something I don't want to put in my mouth, you best tell me now." Picking up a hunk of bread, she bit into it with her teeth and tore a piece free. Even nobodies had to eat.

Axel laughed aloud, sharp and quick. "Oh, don't I wish," he chuckled, then shook his head as he picked up his fork. "But, no. Coq a vin, get it? Chicken.. au vin." He shrugged and took a sizeable bite. "See?" he said through a full mouth, then swallowed. "Totally safe. And quite good."

He favored the chef with a broad smile as she reentered to place metal cups filled with white wine in front of them. The woman blinked at his smile and frowned in suspicion, causing Axel to falter slightly.

After she had retreated once more, Axel shrugged to himself and turned back to Larxene. "So I'm fairly certain Sora is on Destiny Island," he said casually.

Larxene was pretty sure that she didn't want to ask. Chicken it was then... even though she was aware there were other words for that particular animal and Axel was the sort of immature git to laugh over them. Demurely, she took up her fork and stabbed it into a large piece, all while keeping a smile upon her lips.

"I suppose I don't mind putting this in my mouth then." She spoke in a sing songy type of voice and parted her lips. It actually wasn't that bad. Score one for Axel actually being right. She was taking a second bite when the wine arrived. Now that caused a raise of the brow. More booze? Was this a good idea? Maybe it was fancy crap that tasted like animal spit..

"Destiny Island? So then he managed to return home." Well duh Larxene, he'd completed his task. Obviously. "We can't simply use the dark corridoor or has he sealed the world again?"

Axel shook his head, pushing a few vegetables around his plate absently. "I've tried, believe me," he said with a grimace. "That world's locked to darkness. It seems the only way to leave or return is by gummi ship."

He stabbed a carrot. "I don't know about you, but I've never even seen a ship up close, let alone flown one." The Nobody shoved the tortured vegetable in his mouth and swallowed it impatiently. "I heard there was a mechanic in Traverse Town who specialized in them, but when I went there I couldn't find him. Asked around - apparently he skipped town and went to Radiant Garden or some sh*t? Something about a committee, or.. I don't know." He took a gulp from the wine glass and then scowled into the depths.

Setting her fork down, the nymph reached for the cup of wine and took a hestitant sip. Hmn.. not as sweet or as strong as she would have liked but at least the food made up for that.

"Gummi ship?" An eyebrow quirked as she set the cup down and grabbed the silverware again. she nudged a carrot aside to get at more of the meat. Vegetables were overrated in her opinion. "Those ridiculously colorful things? Oh you have got to be kidding. I suppose though if you're so determined, we have to find ourselves one... and a pilot."

"We don't necessarily need a pilot," Axel said, mopping up some of the sauce with his bread crust. "It can't be that hard to drive. Sora did it, after all." Here he smirked, gesturing vaguely with the bread. "Of course, I'd never say no to a chauffeur."

He sobered somewhat, smile fading as he thought. "We'll probably have to steal one, though - I'm not shelling out the kind of munny those things must cost. And if we're stealing it, then it'll probably be hard to find a pilot.." he paused, eyebrows lifting. "Unless.. we were to.. coerce the original owner into flying us where we need to go, on the grounds that he would be rewarded afterwards by being able to keep his ship.. and his life."

Now this made Larxene's pale lips curl up into such a grin that one might swear she actually was capable of feeling emotions. She stabbed a piece of chicken on the end of her pointed fork and lifted it up, eyeing it as it the idea of it being impaled was quite amusing.

"Axel, dear." She began in a soft voice and sat up straighter as if quite proud of herself. "That sort of coaxing is what I'm best at. Violence, threatening, flirting, it all works absolute wonders with the sort of weak minded fools who inhabit these parts. You find the pilot, I'll make sure he takes us where we want." She bit into the chicken, flashing white teeth almost menacingly.

Hmn.. this was going better than she'd originally thought. Fate must be favoring her.

Axel felt his own mouth curving to echo Larxene's expression, though if he'd had a stronger sense of self-preservation he might have paid attention to the dart of cold wariness that threaded up his spine.

"Maybe having you around will be more useful than I'd thought," he murmured with a dark grin. "Okay, so I'm thinking, we could go after Cid himself, but I figure that guy's got people around, people we'd maybe be wise to avoid fighting. Not that I think we couldn't take them," he smirked, "but I wouldn't want you risking that pretty face of yours."

"Oh? Are you trying to compliment me?" The nymph snorted in amusement. Pretty face indeed, she could take them all down if need be with an arc of chain lightning. Though, to be honest, she prefered to slash and stab with those lovely knives of hers. There was just something more fun about drawing blood. She wondered briefly if Axel felt the same.

"You're probably right though. Cid is well known, people will protect him and miss him if he suddenly disappears. I'm sure he's been fully informed not to trust a nobody. We are suppose to be the bad guys. I doubt the little keyblade master would appreciate that tactic either. You did say no hurting what passes for his friends, did you not?" Her smile faded as she reached for the cup of wine with delicate fingers and lifted it to her lips to take a drink. This was irritating but a test of her skill at manipulation. There were ways to get what one wanted without violence or with the intent to harm, it just wasn't as easy. "No, I suggest finding someone not so well known. There must be pilots for hire."

As she set the cup down, the soft and clearly false smile returned. She leaned towards Axel, resisting the urge to touch for she knew the d*mned fool was trying to pass her off as his cousin.

"You can do that, can't you? I'm sure you're capable. You'll do anything to get what you want, won't you?"

(lolol didn't Larxene read the Marquis de Sade? This is FRANCE, after all.)

"I'm not so sure," Axel said after a moment's consideration, swirling the remains of the wine in his cup. "Not that I can't get a ship, but that there would be one for hire.. inter-world travel is pretty uncommon among "regular folk" - not that we'd know anything about being regular. But the only one who's technically supposed to be traveling between worlds is the Keybearer, and I've never heard of anyone but Cid actually working in the business." He frowned, taking a sip and then setting the mug down.

"But what's "hurting," really?" he mused, picking up his fork again. "I mean, we don't have to actually harm the guy. Just a little.. persuasion." Axel glanced at Larxene, a small smirk crossing his features. "I'm sure you know the kind."

(Suggesting you want bad touch? XD )

A thin blonde eyebrow raised. Well, well, well. So it seemed she wasn't expected to play completely nice after all. How refreshing though she did hope that by 'persuasion' he meant clever manipulation, ultimatiums and veiled threats. Anything else that might have meant made her stomach lurch.

"True.." She began in a low tone of voice, her hand lingering upon the cup of wine and lightly stroking the surface. "If that's how you feel about it, a bit of manipulation surely can't be harmful, hmn? We may get lucky. Cid may not know us at all. Especially without these heavy coats on." She paused to catch her train of thought. The wine was catching up with her faster than she would have liked. The numbing was pleasant though the way it dulled her mind was vexing.

"Unless you've gone and revealed yourself to him, he may not know what we look like at all. Not until it's too late anyhow." She finished, offering the redhead a pleased smirk. She could imagine it now. Sora pointing in horror at who Cid had brought to see him. Oh it would be just glorious.

(:O~)

"Oh, I wouldn't count on that," Axel said smoothly, spearing a last piece of chicken on his fork. "That is, for him to not recognize us without disguises. I don't believe any of us ever met him personally, but we've certainly been seen by his buddies on their little Restoration Committee, and I'm sure he's heard to watch out for black cloaks. Besides that, though.." He shrugged. "They think we're all dead. It ought to be a piece of cake."

Axel sat back in his chair, his dulled echo of emotion mixing somewhere between satisfaction and apprehension. It ought to be a piece of cake... But he wasn't quite as ****-sure as he used to be - not after he'd lost so much.

"Don't get too c*cky." She paused to giggle at the sound of the word, finding a bit of hollow amusement in using it. "We'll still need to be on our guard. The coats are easy enough to ditch for a while, like they're so comfy anyhow, but what's a Restoration Committee? Sounds pretty lame to me."

Larxene poked at the last of her food with her fork. It was going to get cold if she didn't finish it off but she couldn't say she wanted to. Ah screw it, she grabbed the cup of wine instead and tipped it back to drain it. Despite not being fond of feeling lightheaded, she figured she'd need it to get through this.

Axel shrugged. "I don't know much more than you. I imagine they do some restoration... which I'm sure Radiant Garden still needs, having been so recently renamed." He put down his fork and picked up his cup to finish the last of his wine. Axel closed his eyes as warmth slid through him, but quickly faded. He'd built up far too much of a tolerance from this stuff, if it wasn't doing its job any more.

With impeccable timing, the proprietress burst out of the kitchen once more, which gave Axel the discomfiting suspicion that she'd been watching them. But nothing they'd said would mean anything to her, especially with what appeared to be a limited grasp of English. "Finish?" she demanded briskly, and Axel glanced inquiringly at Larxene.

Larxene was about to speak. Restoration? When had that started? Did that mean there was more than just that blasted castle and the tattered remains of the world floating around there now? Hmn.. so much she had missed out on.

She parted her pale lips to speak but the interruption silenced her words. Stupid French people, did they have no concept of timing? This was important business. She had to get enough information out of the redhaired b*stard just in case he slipped away despite all they'd said. She pushed the plate and the empty mug towards the woman, forcing a fake smile.

"Finished." She spoke in a sing-songy tone, trying to sound cheerful. The wine helped that a little. "Are you finished my dear cousin? Shall we retire for the night?"

"Sounds capital, milady," Axel said with enthusiasm bordering on mockery. He turned to the proprietress with a winning smile. "Madame, that meal was truly awe-inspiring, but I believe my lady cousin and I now wish to retire. Might you be so gracious as to show us to our rooms?"

The woman blinked at him once, then grunted affirmation and started for the door, apparently assuming they would follow. Axel stood carefully and turned, offering his arm to Larxene with a smirk. "Shall we?"

Larxene gave a roll of her eyes. His attempt to be charming and well-mannered was laughable. At least the woman inn owner wasn't putting on such a fancy show. She moved to stand from her seat, smugly putting her nose up in the air as a show of independance. "Axel, dear, I don't need your-"

Thud.

Just like that, her legs turned to jelly underneath her and all her grace and arrogance was shattered as she stumbled towards the floor lightheaded and woozy.

"Woah!" Startled, Axel darted forward to catch her before she faceplanted, though perhaps not as quickly as he should have. She had been about to insult his masculinity, after all, even if she hadn't done so very effectively, for once.

In seconds, Axel's expression had morphed from surprised to cruelly delighted. "What was that, dear Larxene? You don't need my what?" He bit back laughter, instead offering her an innocuous smile.

It took Larxene a moment to even realize what had happened and why the d*mn pyro was a lot closer than she might have wanted. Her body had apparently betrayed her, more affected by the drink than she had been aware of. Funny, she couldn't recall having had all that much... wait... how much had she drank? Great, just great. There went her clear head and memory.

"....help." She finished through tightly grit teeth. Whether it was a genuine request for aid was up for debate. "... and stop grinning like an idiot! I tripped!"

Oh what a lie, even the nymph knew it.

"Oh, was that all?" Axel said lightly, straightening. "Well, in that case.."

However, as he was about to let go and let the other Nobody fend for herself, the proprietress of the inn reappeared in the doorway, looking grumpy and impatient. Axel promptly pasted his brainless-dandy smile back on and tightened his grip.

"Cousin! I must have forgotten how strongly affected you are by a good wine!" He enthused, "concerned" voice threaded with mockery. He looked to the older woman. "Forgive me, Madame, I will have to help her to her chamber. Sorry to keep you waiting!"

Larxene uttered a soft grunt of protest. She despised being seen as helpless so much that she swore she actually could feel the disgust instead of just its hollow memory. The fact that it was Axel who had to be the one to 'help' her made it even more loathesome. She could almost taste the humiliation. Were she not so woozy and attempting to put on a show for the worthless inn keep, she might have very well lashed out with a bitter insult from her sharp little tongue or a jolt of electricity to remind the redhead that his mockery was not wanted.

Then again... if she had to suffer this pathetic act and still her tongue, he could suffer right along side of her. Half drunk or not, she still knew how to make him uncomfortable.

"Oh my, why you're right my dear dear cousin!" Her voice raised in pitch, taking on a feminine and desperate tone. "What would I do without you to look after me? My sweet and so considerate Axel. Oh do help me, I'm too weak to do it on my own! You know how I am." She feigned a sickly sweet smile and leaned heavily up against him with a little sigh.

Ugh. Even she could feel her stomach turning from how fake and sugary that was but if it made him uncomfortable, well then, at least her humiliation wasn't without one saving grace.

Axel felt his smile souring rapidly, and he worked to keep a good face in front of the proprietress. However, when the Nobody looked sideways to reply to Larxene, his eyes glinted. "Truly, my dear, it is my pleasure as much as my duty to aid you whenever your health wanes. Why, it will be a wonder if we can ever find a husband who would willingly take on the maintenance of your delicate constitution. But fear not, darling cousin." He tightened his grip on Larxene's waist as they reached the stairs, lifting her a bit more roughly than was necessary while simultaneously gracing her with a charming smile. "For as long as you require my assistance, I will ever be at your side."

The older woman opened the first door at the top of the stairs, gesturing for them both to enter. "Your room, Monsieur, Mademoiselle," she grumbled.

Larxene sucked in a breath and sunk her teeth into the inside of her bottom lip. The sting of pain helped clear her thoughts but mainly it kept her from frying the idiot redhead on the spot for his ill-chosen words and rough grasp. Whether he had intended it wholly as mockery or not didn't matter, the implication they held was enough. To guide her as if she were a toy, to suggest she required him at her.... well now wait, was that some sort of hint he wasn't going to ditch her? If she hadn't been tipsy, she might have focused more on that than the insult to her pride.

"Of course my dear cousin." She spat, perhaps more harshly than she should have. "But perhaps you could ease your manly strength. I fear someone may get hurt." The unspoken threat was that it would of course be him. "Let us go inside and rest."

Axel was a bit too distracted to reply, as the proprietress bumbled off and left them to their room. Their single room.

With a single bed.

Irritated, Axel drawled, "If you say so, dear," and unceremoniously dropped Larxene, striding further into the room to peer out the window. "Hm. sh*t view. I assume I'll be sleeping on the floor?" Were it anyone else, he might have argued against it, but some sense of masculine duty buried deep within the remnants of Axel's corroded soul insisted that The Woman Gets The Bed, and that was the end of that.

And down the nymph went despite her best efforts to keep from stumbling and landing on her a**. There went the whole act. Part of her was relieved as it meant she had no reason to sugar coat her words any longer. The other was less than pleased he just left her to fall over. Men without hearts, she had to remind herself, were always utterly worthless.

"B*stard.." The word was hissed through her teeth. Her limbs still felt like jelly and it took a moment or two for her to speak again. Longer before she tried to move. She wanted to kill him.. but no, no not now. He still had his uses.

"Of course I get the bed." She heaved a sigh, sinking back down and placing a hand to her forehead. "I thought there were suppose to be two? Perhaps our innkeeper is either dense or suggesting something I'd rather not consider in this state. ... who gives a f*ck about the view?"

"Or perhaps this is all she had left," Axel shrugged, leaning on the windowpane. "It doesn't matter - we've been through far worse on missions."

The Nobody scanned the small room, looking for a bit of floor that seemed softer than the others. As much as he acted tough about it, he wasn't too pleased about going without a bed. He was the one who was supposed to be paying for this, after all.. though, since the proprietress hadn't demanded payment in advance, he had every intention of skipping out on the bill via portal.

Axel sighed - always the martyr, he was - and turned a beseeching look on Larxene. "I don't suppose I could get one of those pillows?"

Larxene lifted a brow at the other Nobody and the request he posed to her. "Like a pillow is going to make that floor any more comfortable." She murmured, mostly to herself. Though after recalling the hard, alabaster slabs that passed for bed in The World The Never Was, she supposed the floor of some less than four star inn couldn't be much worse. It was just as inhumane. Not that they were human and deserving of human comforts, at least not by the views of most.

She reached with a small amount of effort for one of the pillows on the bed. Soft and fat.. at least they weren't thin and stuffed with hard straw. She could do without one of them she supposed. A tiny act of consideration for a fellow Nobody, even if it was Axel.

"Catch." A little smirl curled up the corners of her pale lips and she threw the pillow at him.

Axel wrapped his long arms around the pillow, but was still effectively smacked in the face. With a muffled noise of disgruntlement, he buried his face in the soft fabric and inhaled deeply. Such a small comfort, but one he hadn't experienced in far too long.

Not one to linger over small pleasures, however, the Nobody tossed the pillow down on the floor at the foot of the bed, where Larxene's view of him would be obscured by the footboard. "See you in the morning," he grunted, easing down onto the floor and trying to relax enough to keep his eyes shut, at least.

He closed his eyes briefly, and frowned at the spattering of light that left the backs of his eyelids lighter than black. Oh, right. Axel raised his hand, gesturing mildly, and the small flame of the candle on the night table was promptly extinguished.
